Both TK and NH flights operate from Terminal 2. Assuming that your IST-PVG segment arrives on time, and your baggage is checked through to NRT, you should be fine if you really hurry and know what you're doing; I've done this in as few as 40 minutes a couple of times (lots of running). You'll need to clear inbound immigration, then proceed back through outbound immigration and security. PVG has no airside transit; everyone must clear passport control.

Assuming that you miss your connection and are forced to spend the night, you will both be able to leave the airport and get a hotel. Turkish nationals, like just about everyone, qualify for 24 hour TWOV with a confirmed onward ticket to a third country. That should give you more than enough time to get another flight to NRT without being forced to camp airside.

70 mins is too tight in my opinion as PVG is not really setup for efficient connections,. Given the standard delays departing from IST these days, I dont know that I would risk it.

Someone more knowledgeable can comment about the transit without visa option.

If it were me, given the sheer # of *A flights from Europe to NRT I would look to see if there are any other options available using the US miles, as the ICN-GMP alternative isnt particularly attractive either. I know that the IST-KIX nonstop on TK and FRA-NGO on LH often have availability but will depend on your dates.

Thanks guys. I'm going to keep the reservation for now and hope * opens up some more routes. As long as we don't have to spend the first night of our honeymoon sleeping in the Shanghai airport, I'll be happy.

+1, a bit tight if you ask me. There's always lines in PVG, though pretty quick.

There is a hotel between t1 and t2..all the rooms look like they came out of the movie 1967 casino royale.

Hello Boss B - did you make it?

Hello, Boss B

Did you make the connection??!!

China Eastern just changed my connecting flight and I have only 60 minutes to connect to JFK flight. It is a single ticket on China Eastern, although I don't know if this will speed things up.

I guess I'll just apologize a lot as I cut line at inbound immigration and outbound security???

Thanks for any details.

Doug

Hi Doug, I ended up switching my flight via Seoul. I didn't want to spend night one of my honeymoon camped out in the Shanghai airport.

Best of luck with your connection!

60-minute Connection at PVG on China Eastern

Hello,

China Eastern has changed a flight, leaving me with a 60-minute connection at PVG (connecting onto a second China Eastern flight). Throught Vayama, I am waiting to hear from the airlline about this change and whether this is a possible or impossible connection time.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!!

I entered PVG 64 minutes from flight time for an international flight. Our flight was boarding (and late) by the time we got to the gate. I've never connected through PVG to know what it's like.

This was never a risk, but I agree that ICN is far nicer than PVG.

Where are coming from and going to? 60 minutes is tight, but many international flights arrive early, and many domestic flights depart late. Furthermore, some of the latter have numerous flights per day.
