It is amazing how many people, in all different occupations, find it nearly impossible to say the words "I don't know." Even better, as you point out, is the longer phrase "I don't know, but I'll find out." It's one of those magic phrases which can defuse just about any tense situation.

Wish more people would admit it when they don't know something and then take a minute to get the correct answer instead of spewing Bravo Sierra.
