I just sent a tip to the Register. They posted the widely circulated analysis of the 8/10 ban, so I'm hoping they'll pick up on this too.

To those who have a problem with the wording, how about starting a campaign for single work protests, like "Idiotic," "Moronic," etc.? Bold letters on our quart bags.

We certainly have gone too far with our bogus security at the airports! Does anyone actually feel safer? Your freedom of speech was definitely taken away by a TSA worker - sorry you had to experience this, but I guess we all have to remember that we can't speak freely anymore. America is not what our ancestors started anymore!

4th Amendment shipping tape
I have the endless-loop 4th Amendment luggage / shipping tape that the Electronic Frontier Foundation makes for its supporters (of the Bill of Rights or of the EFF).
A picture of it is here:

It's subtle, but if they're going to be opening up my luggage to check out my undies, then they ought to know exactly what they're doing. Slicing right through it, and the edges never quite match up again.
If I had it with me, I'd put some on my clear plastic bag organizers for an upcoming flight.
But I bet that they'd say that reminding people of their oaths to the constitution is shouting fire in a security theater.

To the OP, I urge you in the strongest possible terms to take the AP up on their interview request and also to allow the ACLU to persue this. This could be the equivalent to Rosa Parks in the brave new world...

(personally I'd use stronzo ionstead of idiota, but that might be too crude)

If it came out that someone had taken liquids that turned out to be explosives through security in a bag marked "Kip Hawley is an idiot" we'd be all over the TSA for missing such a big obvious clue. We'd be yelling "they take up so much of our time, and here went someone who could have only been more obvious by writing "BOMB" on the bag, and STILL the TSA couldn't prevent it."

The TSA does have a civil rights hotline you can file a complaint with, but IME they do not respond in any way, shape, or form to e-mails sent there.
