Anyways, we suggest that shoes other than tennis shoes be removed UNLESS you know they won't alarm going through the metal detector. If you pass through and no problems are found in your carry on items then you are done.
If the xray person sees nothing in the bag and the person doesn't alarm coming through. That should be it. And I've brought this up many times. But, I've been given the same excuse by them saying DC says we gotta do it.
Also, a baggage issue I don't particularly agree with is wrapped gifts. We've been told that even if we are slow and we get a box or suitcase full of gifts we will not be allowed to xray them. We have to unwrap each one.
Our supervisors told us that everyone has been instructed not to bring wrapped gifts to the airport, but still I know there are some people who don't have a clue. That's about it for this issue.</font>

As for wrapped presents, did your airport telephone/email/mail all GSO in/out bound travelers and tell them wrapped gifts WILL BE UNWRAPPED? This is just plain stupid unless it's a foil type paper that you can't "x-ray" through.
I believe the TSA "recommended" we not wrap presents (TSA posters remind us constantly that these are not mandatory), they also recommend we remove our shoes and recommend we leave our luggage unlocked all ending with an unspoken/unwritten "or else" clause. Your agency will continue to attempt to remain unaccountable for IT'S ACTIONS and IT'S Policies however the Customer will win. TSA will be greatly dismembered and dojang or no dojang, respect or no respect ain't gonna put humpty back together again....

Agree 100%. Get rid of "selectees" and we're probably on the same page.

Please refrain from taking wrapped presents to the airport. TSA is recommending that you either ship wrapped packages ahead of time or wrap on arrival. If the package alarms, TSA will need to unwrap it to investigate the source of the alarm.

From TSA website!!!
Key words here are "recommend" and "IF".
Sounds like GSO leaders are too busy watching NASCAR at HOOTERS than to read "what" people are being told by the TSA...</font>

In a nutshell, we have here the problem with the TSA. Management (Screening Managers, AFSD's, FSD's and above) do not care to take the time to know what the procedures are.
If these people cared, there would be no problems with wrapped gifts, or passengers going through the checkpoints wearing their shoes.
As for the people who missed their flight, was it a Checkpoint Supervisor who made the decision, or a Screening Manager?

I must say that not all TSA folks are nasty or stupid. On the contrary, first type are probably in a minority.
But many of them do believe that they are protecting us, that leaves me wondering about the second type.
On one occasion, I was too tired to even feel upset about having to take my shoes off. So I did everything like a good boy. Emtied my pockets, took the shoes off. Put my watch, glasses and even my padge with a metal clip in a little bin. I didn't beep as I walked through the arch. Yet, I was taken aside for secondary screenig. My curioisty beckoned me to ask "why". The answer was "We can't be idle. We have to be cheking some one or the other at all times." Since they had just finished screening the last person who had beeped, they used me as a prop to look busy. So I said jokingly, "What do you guys do when there aren't any passengers going through? Wand each other?" He gave me cold blank stare, but I suppose my grin was too benign that he had to start laughing.
I am sure many screeners know they are just going through the motions of looking busy. SO my question is why? ofh why are we so stupid to put up with this circus?

If they have to "look busy" they can clean the restrooms.
Otherwise, I would prefer that they waited for something constructive to do like wand people who failed the WTMD for the second time or help with line organization, or got some training, or whatever.
Harassing passengers is not something I want them doing at any time; I'd rather my tax/fee dollars were wasted on idle workers than on harassing workers.
If there's nothing else to do for long periods of time other than harass or idle, then there's at least one employee too many.

Simply put, if you have a good suggestion, contact the Federal Government and make it known...
As far as incompetency of those you are paying for... Again I remind you that most of the TSA screeners are retired and current Military and Law Enforcement personnel... Very educated if you ask me!
By the way, you already paid for the private security in your ticket price, and as far as the lines, you stood in those before 9/11... The best thing now is that we are trained and can speak english!!!
And as far as:
1) ["Go get a union"] Believe me we are trying.
2) ["Get additional hours of training"] We completed training and have reccuring training that if we don't pass, we are terminated.
3) ["Become standardized"] We try, but with 50,000 agents it is very hard.
4) ["And in the meanwhile, please don't treat the public as the problem instead of the terrorists"] My question to you is; what or who is a terrorist? Timothy McVeigh, an all american boy, high school graduate, military veteran, and oh yes, a domestic terrorist!
5) ["Kindly remember too that the public you berate is the self-same "public" that went hurtling into those Twin Towers"] Yes we had friends and relatives there too!
Bottom line, treat us nice and with respect when you come thru the Federal checkpoint, we have feelings just like you!!!

Wait, the people of this country are already being a solution to the problem by being forced to pay a transport tax, spend endless hours in line per year depending on the frequency of travel, now we are meant to come up with solutions for the incomeptency of those we're paying for?

Thank you, most of us are polite and honestly trying to keep you safe!
As far as the continuous wanding, that is Federal policy from Washington...
As far as "Why are we so stupid to put up with this circus", be SMART enought to want to be kept safe! Cirus, I don't think so... Keeping the flying public safe, that is more like it...

FYI, Federal Agents don't clean the restrooms, and if you "the public" would be cleaner then the janitors wouldn't have such a mess....
["Second time thru the WTMD"] Only one chance now... divest as we ask including shoes and you won't have to worry about alarming...
["If there's nothing else to do for long periods of time other than harass or idle, then there's at least one employee too many"] Can't help down time between flights and passengers coming thru the checkpoint... Have to keep staff for the next surge of passengers to come thur...

I am smart enough to both want to be safe and know that your agency's methods are, for the most part, horse@#$%. So, I will continue to point out at every opportunity what a disgraceful, un-American, unsafe agency you work for.
I really wonder if you're not some North Korean agent, sent here to sow filthy communist ideology under the guise of "security". May I see your papers, Comrade??
