Question regarding Global Entry denial
Hello all,
My Global Entry application was recently denied. I have no criminal record, never violated any customs laws, had the same address for well over 5 years, etc. Long story short I have no idea why I was denied without getting an interview. I do have a Muslim name but I was born in New York and Im not even Muslim. Im Greek on my mothers side and Pakistani on my dads side. Im totally fine with being profiled because of my name but to be denied this privilege when Ive done nothing wrong just doesnt sit right with me. I even emailed a complaint after 7 weeks passed and I received no response. Maybe I angered whoever read the email because the denial came just days after I complained. What really frustrates me is Im a native born US citizen and I received no response for 7 weeks whereas my wife who is a permanent resident was given conditional approval 72 damn hours after she applied and shes Venezuelan which I believe is now considered one of the countries that our government is less than pleased with. I actually find it hilarious that CBPs vetting process bars people that have done nothing wrong from getting Global Entry but somehow fail to properly investigate the backgrounds of their agents that let migrant children die in their custody or run around the Texas border murdering prostitutes. Lol! Id say their vetting process needs work. I realize not all CBP agents like to hack up hookers and watch young kids die from dehydration but clearly some clown is reading our applications and just deciding he doesnt like a persons name. Anyhow I better be careful. The next serial killer CBP decides to give a gun and a badge to might have it in for people with Muslim names. At any rate Im grateful to be an American and not a sex worker on the Texas border or a 7 year old migrant from Latin America. I was contemplating escorting my wife to her interview just in case the agent mistakes her for a sex worker but Im afraid they might fire tear gas at us. CBP! Making America great again. One dead whore at a time!

Most of your post is totally irrelevant to your GE application - though we all do like a good rant - and if you included any of those comments in your complaint to the CBP then it's no surprise they rejected you! Never be rude about the people who have the power to judge you!
Have you looked at this web page? My application for the Trusted Traveler program has been denied. Is there anything I can do? it may be helpful in querying why you were denied.
What does it say in your TPP account about reasons? That should guide you on how to submit any additional information. You also have access to your congressional representatives.

1. There is nothing to be done until the government reopens. GE is shut down and thus whatever OP's current status is will remain.
2. At some point, perhaps after the shut down ends, OP will receive a letter stating the reasons for his denial. It likely will not be specific, but it may shed some light on the subject. Could be as simple as having a typo in a former employer's address.
3. Not worth making nasty comparisons to other nationalities such as your wife's, using terminology which is insulting to the people you need to help you, or using words such as "damn" which some people --- perhaps the individual reading your submission -- consider offensive.

The Trusted Travelers forum is informational. Members come there in search of practical information about applying for and using the various Trusted travelers program.
Please follow this thread to the Checkpoints and Borders Policy Debate forum, where rants, opinions and commentaries belong.
2nd class citizen, if you are looking for advice instead of just venting, please check out the Global Entry Denial Recourse thread.

Thanks for being so helpful Often1. There was no reason given in the denial letter which I received in November. It was an email. I actually called and spoke to an agent after waiting well over an hour and she gave a pretty generic response. All she said was that they were “unable to determine whether or not I met the eligibility requirements.” Regarding my wife, <redacted by moderator>. Clearly you seem to be saying I was wrong in comparing my half Pakistani heritage to my wife’s Venezuelan heritage. I wasn’t trying to say that Venezuelans or Latinos are held in as low regard as a Muslim which you seem to believe. If you read the news you’ll see that the US government is about to add Venezuela to the list of state sponsors of terrorism. My point is the process seems to be flawed and CBP doesn’t seem to be handling it properly. My rant was stupid and unhelpful but some people have a different sense of humor than you and aren’t as easily offended. It’s a shame that the government is shutdown. That means CBP isn’t hiring and they’re missing out. <redacted by moderator>. My goodness. I didn’t realize the “d” word would offend anyone in this day and age. <redacted by moderator>. The truth of the matter is when someone sees a name like mine they automatically profile me and I understand and accept that. Once they meet me and see I have no accent and have lived my entire life in this country and that I was born here they realize I’m not “one of the bad ones.” CBP didn’t even take the time to interview me. They did, however, keep my $100. <redacted by moderator>. FYI I happen to be Greek Orthodox which is Christian. Or maybe I’m not allowed to be Christian becasue I used the “d” word.
Thank you. I‘ve read through these posts for hours. At the end of the day there seems to be little recourse that actually works. CBP can deny whoever they want to deny. Sorry for my immature rant. Sometimes laughing or ridiculing things that make little sense is the only way to deal with them and move on.
Thanks UKtravelbear for not being condescending and having a sense of humor. Just so you know if you like a good rant you’re a bad Christian.

I forgot to mention that there was no reason in the email denial. Only when I spoke to an agent was I told that they couldn’t determine if I met the requirements.

i'm not sure what my religion has to do with the price of fish. Adding a smile does not make it any better or funnier. Don't ascribe your religious views onto others.
Again you go way off topic with many of your remarks. I hope your dealings with the CBP don't include such comments because they won't get you anywhere.
If / when you do appeal keep it simple and answer the questions asked truthfully and clearly. Don't ascribe motives to people you don't know. Don't be rude to them like you have on here. Don't make snide comments.
