Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?

For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?

Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?

Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?

Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

Very helpful. Thanks. Not sure that I'll do that for the current 1x, but it may be worth it to me if the MPX bonus increases.

OK, my family member just got approved today. Obviously the card isn't here yet and the online account doesn't show statement date yet. When does the online account show statement close date?

With the redesign of Chase's site I have not been able to find the statement date anymore. I had to do a SM to find out what it was for sure, but all my Chase cards are 3 days after the due date, so if my due date is December 25 then my statement cuts December 28.

I'll try SM, but since the card was just approved and hasn't arrived yet, there's no due date yet.

As I understand it, the clock for the $300 travel credit resets AFTER the December statement, so if I make a purchase of $300 now (before the December 2016 statement closes), and then another $300 in January 2017, should I expect that both are refunded? This seems too good to be true?
Now that you understand how it works, your next question should be: "Will I have a December statement or will my first one be in January?" If the answer is January, then you have no 2016 credit. It's already 2017.

It looks like my wife's first statement is going to close tomorrow (December 1). She already got the $300 credit for 2016. I've got another travel charge to make so I should soon be able to confirm that you can get the 2017 credit after your December statement posts.

No guarantees but they will probably have opened the account when they approved it and will charge the fee on 12/1. In these circumstances my first close date would map to 12/13.

So if it works, and you don't care about the 100,000 points bonus... you could just close the account and get the annual fee refunded and pocket the $600 credit?

($300 x 2) + $100 (Global Entry) - $450 = $250. We're already up $250 and the bonus is worth at least $1,500 (and probably much more if transferred to another program). I think we'll keep her card for a year and then close it. I'll probably keep mine unless they cut the benefits in the future.

Without the bonus your evil scheme would be a no brainer.

Can anyone confirm success or failure buying Hilton Gift Card via Hilton?

Fail. Does not code as travel. Marriott seems to be the only option.

You maybe able to get the $300 for 2018 in Dec 2017 and close it before having to pay the annual fee for next year.

Her account was opened on November 9, so that should work. Annual fee and December 2017 statement on December 1, make $300 travel charge, wait for travel credit to post, cancel card by December 8 and get fee refunded.

I'll have to think about whether I want to abuse Chase like that.
