Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

Has anyone used the travel credit on the Ritz-Carlton Rewards Card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card to make United Airlines TravelBank purchases and gotten reimbursed?

Question; is the grocery store purchases qualifying for travel credit eligible thru December 31, 2020 or June 30, 2021?
I noticed this, too. I believe they are extending it into June. I think your anniversary date may make a difference here; mine is coming right up, so I think I'll be able to start on the new $300 credit in January after my annual fee is paid.

Hoping someone could confirm my upgrade plans...

My card anniversary is March for the CSP. If I upgrade now to the CSR, will I get the $300 travel credit to use before March, then another $300 after March? And then another $300 in March 2022 before downgrading. Has anyone had experience doing this?

I could be wrong about this, but I thought that the annual travel credit was always based on the calendar year, regardless of anniversary date and date of annual fee.

I got my card in 2016 with a December 14th statement date. My travel credit became available after my December statement date. Last year I received my full 2020 travel credit on the 15th of December after paying a hotel bill on the 13th.

If the card was opened prior to May 2017, the travel credit resets when each December statement posts.

If the card was opened after May 2017, the travel credit resets when the first statement after the cardmember's anniversary posts. Then every 12th statement after that.

Interesting, I applied in Nov 2018, and my first AF didn't hit until March 2019. I am seeing travel credits toward the $300 as of today from a November purchase from last week. I of course hit the $300 quickly whenever it resets.

This is highly unusual unless you meant to write that you PCd from another card in Nov 2018.
Happy likes this.

I have just started my $300 travel credit. I am ready to make a walmart. com grocery order and trying to figure out if this will apply to the $300 travel spend. I have made walmart. com grocery orders in the past with my CS Reserve. Would there be something on my previous statements that would identify whether the purchase would apply towards the $300 travel credit?

I would like to get the $300 credit asap and then cancel the card before the annual fee.

On the Chase web site, navigate to your Sapphire Reserve's statements page and select a month during which you bought groceries from walmart.com. (Do not select PDF statements.) When I look at current or former months' listings of transactions, the line with the charge shows a category.

But this is not definitive. For Freedom, my local Walmart shows "grocery" but it doesn't count for the bonus when grocery is a bonus category. For Sapphire Reserve, I bought from a shop that coded as restaurant or something that would reasonably be dining, but it did not earn the 3x associated with dining because the MCC was bakery or something similar. (It's been a while, and I don't recall the details.)

Probably your best move is to make a trial purchase and see what happens. Please report the result if you do. Good luck.

Double Dip on Chase Sapphire Reserve

My renewal was up on Dec 1 and I have bene charged $450. I am thinking of calling it quits but would like to know if I can claim the $300 "Travel credit" buy buying groceries (since I can't travel) and then cancel the card on Dec 31, assuming this is legal of course. My questions are 1) Is this possible? 2) Which major online stores are considered "grocery" for the purpose of the credit? Can I buy gift cards at a grocery and will this still be coded as a grocery purchase? How soon is the credit provided. For instance, if I purchase $100 grocery on Dec 15, is the corresponding credit of $100 alos on teh same day.

Thank you in advance!

Does this flyertalk actually have a listing of all stores that were coded as grocery by Chase? If not, why not?
