However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017
Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

Yes. It also looks like Tier 5 will be Cat 7 Aug 1, 2018 - Feb 1, 2019 until Cat 8 is introduced. Wonder if Ritz Tier 1-4 Free Night Certificates will be usable at Tier 5 since they should become Cat 7?

One thing I can tell you, I was able to use a regular Marriott free night certificate (from chase Marriot reward card) in a Ritz...wasn’t able to to this before.

These certs are for cat 1-5 hotels, how did you use it in a Ritz that is tier 1-4, I don't get it. Was it a glitch?

i know, I found it strange too.. I had originally booked with points, but I went to edit the date online, that’s when I had the option to attach the certifificate. I was credited the points back to my account minus a cert.
I’ll take it.

No, not yet. It’s coming up in a couple days.. I wonder if it has something to do with the Marriott card upgrade? I say that, because when I booked the room with points , I didn’t have the option to attach the cert, after the upgrade, I was able to.

What does the certificate say, cat 1-5? If yes, it may be a property specific glitch...

SPG Lurker has since said that "floating certificates" will convert into equivalent points. Seems that the wording was intentional and he did not mean certificates of equivalent point value. If so, I'd expect these certs to convert into 60,000 points each (Tier 4 equivalent). Making the current sign-up bonus worth 120,000 points. I believe the prior points sign-up on this when I got that before was 140,000 points so seems right.

$300 travel credit DP - purchased several norwegian airlines gift cards. Appeared on the statement as NORWEGIAN AI. Told the agent it was two seat upgrade fees and she applied the credit instantly. I saw it on the statement the next day.
