Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

I just applied and was approved for the card a few days ago. According to everything Frequent Miler has written, since you automatically receive gold your first year with the Ritz card without $10,000 spend, you only need to reach the minimum $4,000 bonus spend by July 31, 2018 to lock in Platinum status until Feb. 2020. Those who have had the card for more than a year, will need to spend $10,000 by July 31, 2018 to achieve Gold and thereby lock in Platinum until Feb. 2020.

I think it will be better if the 2 free nights posts before Jule 31st , as it will convert to a greater value certificate . I dont know how it will be after aug 1st.

Hi all-
Apologize if this has been asked before, but can't find a definitive answer. My annual fee is about to hit and thinking about canceling the Chase Ritz Infinite card. I have my 3 free reward nights that are not set to expire for some time and also have my club upgrade certificates. If cancel my card before my annual fee hits, will I in any way be subject to a clawback of the free night or reward certificates or will they remain on my Ritz/Marriott account after I cancel until the date of expiration.
I also hit my $10,000 annual spend (account year not calendar year) for Gold and was told by Chase that I would be able to retain that going into the merger and likely convert to Platinum Elite through 2020 after August. I doubt that is what will happen given other discussions on calendar year vs account year.
I would be happy to keep the card, but doubt I will be able to extract the same level of value for the next $450 fee. At best, I will walk out even with the $300 travel credit and possibly a $100 infinite travel or $100 credit for 2night paid Ritz stay here or there.
Any advice would be appreciated

I've had the card for several years so grandfathers to the old fee of $395 - so in essence having the card is a wash with the travel credit and one domestic flight a year.
BUT
I do value two things about the card:
1. The fact that no matter which card I call for I get the executive services as the front line agents for every request.
2. The free AU which comes with its own PP - which I value a lot as members of the family travel enough without me and use this benefit on their solo trips.
All in all I think I'll keep the card as long as those two remains intact. I wonder what changes will be announced soon. It is also reasonably easy to get a retention bonus on the card every 2 years, which makes keeping it open an easier decision.

I have been looking at this card seriously and made a call this morning to try and get some answers. The gentleman i spoke with was very nice but managed to elude all my questions. Even in the worst case scenario the card should be a good value for me particularly if the rumored Platinum status until early 2020 is correct. I wonder if i need to complete the spend requirement before the August merger to get that status.

I applied and was approved on June 10 for the Ritz card, and found that my gold status (I had been Sliver Elite) now shows up in my SPG and Marriott/RC accounts, and I haven't even received the card yet..I also received the three RC upgrade certificates in my account two days after approval.

You receive gold status your first year without the spend requirement (even if you don't meet the $4,000 spend requirement to get the two free nights, you will still be gold), so as long as you have the card, you have gold, you just need to get the card before July 31, 2018, then your gold will become Platinum Elite until Feb. 2020. At least that is the current understanding, until we hear otherwise from Marriott.

The Ritz Carlton card will have the same earning structure as the new SPG Luxury Amex card, effective August 26, 2018. The rewards agreement has been updated to reflect this. Details and link below.
The current 10% Points Premium will only be on purchases through the statement close in August 2018.
Unfortunately this link only focuses on points earning and has nothing about elite status, the $100 companion discount, etc.

For purchases that post to your account beginning August 26, 2018, you’ll earn:
- 6 Rewards points for each $1 spent on qualifying purchases made at participating The Ritz-Carlton locations, participating Marriott® locations, and participating SPG locations.
- 3 Rewards points for each $1 spent on purchases in the following rewards categories: restaurants; airline tickets when purchased directly with the airline; car rental agencies.
- 2 Rewards points for each $1 spent on all other purchases including purchases for stays at The Ritz-Carlton Destination Club® locations, Charter Rewards points or payment of annual Destination Club program membership dues.
You’ll earn a 10% bonus on all new Rewards points earned with your The Ritz-Carlton Rewards card purchases starting after your December 2017 closing date through the billing cycle ending in August 2018

There are always rumors! Don't know if this is true or not, but I have read that Chase will continue to support the Marriott Business Visa and Ritz cards that are out there. However, sometime this year they will stop allowing applications. I have no idea when that will happen, though.
Personally, I went ahead and got another Marriott Business Visa because of the situation described above. It really depends on how important it is to you to have this card. It would be nice if the details of the new Amex cards and any new Chase cards for Marriott were leaked before the Ritz and Business Visa cards stopped taking applications. Don't know if that will happen, though.

I miscalculated when my 3 free nights were expiring - I set a wrong reminder to call and ask for the (generally available per this thread) 1 year courtesy extension. When I got the card renewal info I decide to cancel the card. Then when the 3FN reminder popped up I called them to see if they would extend it. They told me that they would as a courtesy have done it (added a year to the original expiration date) but could do nothing as the card was no longer open.
The rep also told me that the 3 suite level upgrades (which are on the account through 2019) cannot be used either unless I have a valid open RC Chase Visa. Any other data points to confirm this?
