Agree with the suggestion to just get a new Sapphire Preferred and get a new bonus.

But, why stop there? The Sapphire Preferred comes in both Visa and MC and you can get the bonus on both.

Also get a couple of Chase INK cards and collect another 100K in bonuses.

Chase, I love you! Although I have to wonder why banks which had to be rescued are allowed to handout big bonuses.

Well, regardless of the actual mechanics of the switch, which one should I keep? I'm not sure the annual fee would be worth it on the Select if I'm not spending money on it.

I'd have to rent cars a lot more frequently than I do to justify the the annual fee if I'm not also using it to earn points.

CSP has the same annual fee as JPM Select. If you just want the CSP, it seems the only reasonable thing to do would be to close the JPM Select, right? You'd certainly be doing no good if you apply for the CSP because you like the benefits, and then cancel it to keep JPM Select, which you find inferior!

Convert JP Morgan Select to Chase Sapphire Preferred?

As for the chip, the SP will be getting it soon, probably later in the year.

Oh, that's really helpful to know; thanks!

I swear I read somewhere that Chase and JPM were going to merge these two cards and go with one product, the CSP. It would make sense because if you look at the benefits, point earn rates, etc. they almost mirror each other. This would leave JPM with one exclusive product, the Palladium card.

Sooner or later, ALL cards will have to have an EMV chip anyway. It's just a matter of when the upgraded card with EMV chip feature will become available.

Citi, BofA, and AMEX has begun doing this for their existing cardholders on a per-request/as-the-old-cards-expire basis. I assume that would be the case with Chase as well.

Will it be C&S or C&P? I think C&S is pretty much as useless as magstripe...

All of Chase's EMV cards are Chip-and-Sig, so it'll probably be that. And while I'd prefer Chip-and-PIN, Chip-and-Sig is better than nothing. I wouldn't want to waste time arguing with a cashier (who may or may not speak English) about how they have to take my magstripe only card.

In a different thread, I read that it will be C&P.

However, I called Chase Customer Support tonight and asked about EMV availability on the CSP, and she didn't know anything about any upcoming changes to CSP. (But maybe she just wasn't looped in?)

So, wait and see, I suppose. I'll be abroad for about a month early in the summer, so I'd love to get it before then.

CSRs don't have any talking points about EMV & the CSP, but it is being worked on.

I read somewhere that someone was in touch with the manager of the Sapphire group and he had commented that it is a priority.

I'm going to be abroad this summer too for a couple of months, but I'm not holding my breath on the card being updated with EMV by then.

I've never had any issues with my CSP abroad. Merchants know what a magstripe card is and swipe it accordingly. Yes, I have run into problems at ticket kiosks, but those are isolated incidents (and I had a BA Visa with me, so no problems).

How is Chip & Sig. useless? In the few situations when I have needed a chipped card, it has worked perfectly. More and more POS terminals in Europe and elsewhere are being connected to the internet, making Chip & PIN less useful compared to Chip & Sig.

+1

I've never had any difficulty whatsoever with using either my Chase Hyatt or Chase BA cards, both of which are Chip & Sig. Both worked like a charm in unattended Kiosks (where my CSP failed).

PC Chase Slate to Freedom

My oldest revolving account is my good ol' Chase Slate from 2003.

I am accumulating points with my CSP right now and would love to product change my Slate to the Freedom. If I do, will my Freedom be listed as an open account from 2003? or 2013? (and for what credit reports?) Obviously that would affect my score. And also, does Chase soft pull for this? Thanks all.

I did this last week. Chase told me no credit pull. the account number stays the same so I would think age of the account should stay the same.
