IMHO, "downgrading" is just about always a bad idea.

Cancel old card, apply for new card you want to downgrade to and, key point, get more bonuses.

Most people here keep the higher fee version. The annual free night is easily worth the $85

So you travel so little that you only use the same Catogery 6 hotels and nothing else? If so, why are you even interested in keeping the card at all?

I would think $45 for no free night cert and no 15 elite nights dropped into your account (making you a minimum of Silver, and about 1/3 of your way to Gold) is actually a lot worse deal!

I doubt I'd pay a single penny for holding this card if it didn't come with the free night cert and 15 elite nights head start a year. But of course those two go together: I travel enough that the 1/3 head start to getting Marriott Gold is very valuable, and thus I travel enough that I can always find someplace to use the free night cert, even the cat 1-4 that you get the first year or that you get from the MegaBonus offers. The last one I used for a night when I was arriving late at BUF airport, while on the way to a Niagara vacation, and all the decent airport hotels (not just Marriott, but all brands) were $150++ a night, but several of them were Marriott family cat 3 or cat 4. No brainer! (I actually used it for a cat 3 Fairfield because it got much better reviews on TripAdvisor than the cat 4 Residence.)

I could see downgrading to end up with two freedom cards, that would make sense.

chase INK biz cards downgradable to avoid annual fee?

There are 4 different chase biz cards,

1 INK CASH, 2 INK CLASSIC, 3 INK BOLD. 4 INK PLUS
https://creditcards.chase.com/busine...dit-cards.aspx

I currently have the ink bold. my wife wants to apply for either one of the above and she has no chase biz card.
we both have SP card which is personal.

Are all four or three of the above are downgradable/convertable each other?

If she applies for INK BOLD now and when annual fee comes next year, she can downgrade to ink cash or the ink classic to avoid annual fee?

Out of the 4, only INK CASH has some kind of zero liability, purchase protection?

thanks

The INK bold can be downgraded to INK Cash or INK Classic to avoid annual fees. SP can be downgraded to regular Sapphire. Between the INK Cash or Ink Classic, I would choose the Ink classic to downgrade to, to keep earning points.

someone on dansdeals said his IB card wasn't downgradable to any other cards and thus had to cancel due to annual fee.

my wife doesn't have any ink cards, deciding between IB charge or the IB PLUS.

she has good score but short history, if she has to close one card to get this approved, it will be the PRIORITY CLUB< but she has 44k points, will lose her PC points?

It may be like Amex where you can't downgrade a charge to a credit card. Ink Bold is a Charge, whereas Ink is a credit card. Guess you gotta figure out which one of the fee free cards is a credit version.

WONDER IS ink classic is a charge or credit card!

looks like if u got the IB now and next year, you are stuck between cancelling it or keeping it with $95 AF.

IMHO, downgrading is not a winning tactic. Just cancel the card and get another one that earns Ult Reward Pts. Or--get the second card first and then cancel.

It is easy to transfer URPs from one card account to another so you don't lose any by closing.

Or just convert the URPs to, say, UAL miles.

If you don't apply for new cards you can't get new bonus URPs. @:-)

By the way, I have had at least four URP earning cards from Chase in the last few months. Gotta love the bonuses.

That's exactly what I did with my CSP.
I now have two Freedom cards, which allows me to max out the 5x categories twice.

Since the Ink Plus is a business card, I'd expect you would not be able to convert a business card to a Freedom - but I could be wrong.

I'd think that you could change the card to the no-annual fee version when the fee comes up.

Convert JP Morgan Select to Chase Sapphire Preferred?

So I have a JPM Select, but I'm wondering if I should swap it out for a Chase Sapphire Preferred, since I think I'd rack up more points there because I'd also get double points on dining, plus the 7% dividend.

But I'm a little loathe to give up the chip (I've never used it, though maybe I will this summer in Europe) and the primary car insurance (used 2-3 times in the last year).

No forex is important to me, but I think both have that equally. Any other major perks I haven't considered here on either card?

I'm a bit wary because I don't think I can get the Select back anymore. On the other hand, aren't they going to force me over to another card anyways soon?

Any advice on how I should approach this decision?

I could be wrong, but I've read a few reports that the Select card cannot be converted into a Chase Sapphire Preferred, since they are in a different family of credit cards.

See here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credi...signature.html

Instead of doing a product conversion, why not apply for a new CSP and snag those 40,000 bonus UR points?
