Her current status will be valid for another few months yet so she doesn't necessarily need a status match, but she flatly refuses to pay $50 for the Green Tier (she doesn't care about FFPs half as much as we all do).

apply for CX Amex Card

Simple - just open a AM account and request status match.

Status match does not require the members to be a MPC member at first.

Anyone have reports of matches from US Airways Chairman or Delta Diamond being matched to CX? If so, at what level?

CX Status Match

Data Point: friend who'se a SQ gold (SIN based) given CX Silver membership 'which will activated when he does his booking and sends the PNRs to CX'.

He'd written in to theclub@.. with his SQ statements, which weren't really CX routes (s/se Asia travel) though, going forward, he's likely to be traveling to north Asia a bit more.

It depends on you travel pattern.

Unless you have some convincing evidence, CX will usually do SL at most.

(Some did get GO.)

CX matching to SL does not cost them much if you do not fly on CX subsequently, as they only give lounge access for CX flights. This intermediate, and somewhat unusual, level is quite handy in the case of status match. Matching to OW saphire level is another story as they are charged for all lounge access when you fly on another airline in Y.
To get Gold, you really need to do a lot of convincing.

Update: 4 months, 8 emails, and 4 phone calls later - CX notified me today of the "good news" that they'll match my top status on 2 other airlines (UA 1K, Delta DM) with silver on CX.

I'm moving to HK in August for 4 years and indicated in my first email that I have at least 6 TPACs upcoming before the end of the year - and that I would be willing to purchase all of them on CX in J if they would match my status to Diamond MPC.

"Irene" informed me that although I fly frequently (weekly) - the flights for the past year have been primarily in the U.S. (where I am currently based) - and since I've not flown as much internationally ("only" 7 flights so far this year) - CX would only grant Silver. However, if I start flying CX from scratch I can earn gold, and eventually diamond the only fashioned way.

No thanks, I'll stick with the inferior U.S. carriers. As much hype as I've heard about CX being the best J - the way they handled this simple status match request tells me enough about CX customer service.

Btw - I called AA and got the EP status match challenge in less than 15 minutes - and will be EP through 2015. Emerald One World would seem to be enough for the times I have to fly CX.

That said, if I were already DMPC I would be ecstatic that CX keeps the bar high (unlike DL DM). I simply don't have the patience to deal with unresponsive customer service. At least with DL DM and UA 1K I know what I'm dealing with - good and bad.

Sounds more like your lost than CX's. Being based out of HK, good luck with those "inferior U.S. carriers."

And plus - if you're really travelling 6 TPACs before the end of the year....you would only require 3-4 flights in J, and you'll be Gold already. You're not really missing out much for your first 3-4 flights.

You didn't expect CX to match you straight to DM, did you?

Trust me, if your flight doesn't go wrong in anyway, being SL/GO when flying J really makes no difference. There's slight difference as a DM, but still, not that much.

OP did not lose anything.

What OP basically mean that OP tell MPC/AM to kiss the rear.

Data Point: CX comped my parents, who retired recently, to Silver. Dad's just and Asiamiles member and mom's MPC Green (free enrollment on an earlier redemption flight in biz).

No real current status (Dad used to be LH Gold a couple of years back, but i didnt really have 'current' statements to prove their travel's worth) and no significant history of paid travel with CX (although they've been on a fair few JCL redemptions with them).

They're in the middle of an Asia-North America itin in discount J with CX, and I just dropped the MPC a note with their membership numbers, current itin details and anticipated annual travel (~1-2 transpacs p.a.) and didnt shy away from being upfront about them not being a great potential revenue source, but likely being high silver/low gold in a year's time.

Doesnt really cost CX much as their travel is in paid, albeit discounted J, but does help them with priority seating/boarding/free bags with American for their intra-US travels (i mentioned that).

Curious...how many of these 'anticipated annual travel' already have confirmed bookings with CX?

Maybe it helped that the request was sent from you (a DM) :D

Just one- the current trip with CX that they're on - that itself is ~25K club miles - though membership year roll date etc meant that they would not have hit status till next year.

Their other (non Asia-US) travel pattern has a couple of regional routes that they can possibly use CX on (these will be in coach).
(And likely will, given low status/lounge access/priority seats/excess baggage vs no status - thats why I'd commend the MPC on being sensible on this, this low cost decision ensures that my folks will choose CX on these routes).

If my sending the request made a difference, I am super appreciative (not that I am not, otherwise!).

I guess that a DM sending the request means that at least the chances of the email being read relatively more attentively are higher.

Surprised, but not really surprised.

Surpised - comped with no status;

Not Surprised - J class tickets get all the SL benefit already.
