Got my status matched today to a MPC Silver from a UA Premier Executive (Mid-tier/*G).

So I got a $100 ticket from ORD to HKG with a elite status :D

Congrats on your comp, or rather, congrats for nabbing a $100 ticket. Enjoy HKG.

Wow, you nabbed it. As for the comp, good job too.

An interesting thread and thanks to those who provided the address.

I've gone about it in a slightly different way.

I'm a BA Gold with GGL and CCR which is the most benefits you can squeak from BA other than that nice shiny black card!

Stupidly, I applied for a MPC and Asia Miles card before i had ever heard of status match, ending up green! ( I know, I know)

So I have just fired off an email, with evidence of my 66 J sectors on One World in a calendar year, 24 of which were on CX. Including SQ, MH and Thai it's about 90 J sectors in a year. I also have 5 flights booked in the next month on CX, 1 long haul to LAX, again all in J.

Hopefully the status match gods will look kindly on my request, seeing as they
already have my 50 odd bucks (USD) I suppose they don't have to.

There's no requirement to ask for a status match prior to becoming MPC. Yes, you could have saved the $50 but other than that I don't think it makes any difference.

I think normal practice at CX is to comp Silver and anything higher you have to earn it. However, normal practice seems to be thrown out the window lately and CX is giving away higher tiers to all and sundry based on nothing more but holding certain credit cards.

Also - why do you need a CX comp when you are a oneworld elite already?

Airlines (not just CX) usually don't match within the same alliance.

That wasn't my case, I request CX to comp a Diamond status for me as I told them I'm with SQ Solitaire PPS for more than 10 years, sent them with my past 12 months SQ travel history record & membership card as well, also sent them my future 8 CX Business Class booking references.

I guess they just don't care & sent me the reply by saying I need to reach either 120000 miles or 80 sectors in order to get the Diamond tier. They may think I'm going to pay those future CX itineraries anyway, they may think just let this guy to work on his way thru...!

Their new policy, as of last year, is to only match status up to Silver only - regardless of whether you're top-tier Global Services or just a lowly Silver member of a competitor (for all requests submitted to The Club's email). They may occasionally offer Gold or Diamond in some circumstances (such as the recent credit card promotion or corporate contracts).

Because as I now live here, and I have signed up to Asia Miles, it makes more sense for me on things like redemptions, bonus mileage etc.

In addition, BA currently seem to be doing everything possible to piss their GCH off recently so it's my one man stance.

It's simple, if CX want my 10 LHR trips per annum, 2-3 US flights, plus regional flights, all in J or above, I have asked them to status match.

That's completely idiotic. No idea what the guys in CX's marketing department or MPC group are thinking. They clearly enjoy making it hard for themselves.

Here's what you do (if you haven't been offended by the rockheads you've dealt with so far): you can just do what we've all been whinging about here and get an Amex card! One version gets you Gold, while the Centurion gets you Diamond. Far easier feat to accomplish than to fly as much as you do. Amazing that CX won't comp a Solitaire PPS at least Gold, maybe even DM. If I'm not mistaken, Solitaire is achieved via $$$ spent, no? Perfect way for CX to get some goodwill with a premium passenger with a proven track record of putting his a$$ in the seat. EIGHT future J class bookings?

Clearly someone at CX is not thinking straight.

To be fair, you get pretty much everything you'd want/need when flying in C anyways. However, if it was up to me I'd roll out the red carpet for any Solitaire PPS (It's not like you get Solitaire PPS in a year...) who'd committed to CX by making 8 C bookings. That's some serious revenue.

I hope Cathay dont let too many people become Diamond as there are too many people in the lounges and you can tell they dont fly too often as you watch them filling their bags with food and drinks but never see them in F or C class cabin

CX lounges are packed with AA and BA members, not just DMs.

As for # of DMs, I certainly don't like the dilution for Amex members (and just dilution in general...). However, for the guy above (who is PPS Solitaire), that is hardly dilution. Solitaire is basically a card that says "I definitely will earn miles and status on your airline the expensive way." CX should jump at the opportunity. He's going to eventually be DM anyway, so why not extend the goodwill. In doing the Amex Centurion thing, they're clearly TRYING to target a demographic that can afford to fly in the premium cabins that may not be using CX currently. Obviously they hope to earn some incremental revenue out of it. Yet it's still imperfect as a methodology...inevitably some Centurions don't fly often, might not actually book J or F as much as CX thinks, etc. Solitaire, on the other hand, is a nearly perfect database for people who are guaranteed to pay a lot, fly a lot, fly to destinations CX probably serves too, and do it all in premium classes. Plus, it's CX's direct competitor. Would be a great way to earn loyalty from a new pax.

I suspect that some low-level manager made the small, but stupid, decision to give that guy SL. It's a bunk argument for them to say "we are trying to protect the exclusiveness of DM", since with the Centurion thing they've already made it clear they're willing to dilute the integrity of the program.

Guy Betsy Jul 24, 2011 3:27 pm

For these people who got DM the easy way.... will they have requalify on 120K miles or right from the beginning if they've never held a MPC card before?

Funny how Centurion card members (with their spending power) fill their bags with food and drinks... I guess that's how they get rich? Or are you referring to the uncouth types? :p

Wow - is it really happening?

The worst I do is grabbing an extra unit (a bar, cone, or cup) of ice cream when I exited the lounge when I was eating one (I was at UA RCC/IFL at that moment) :D

Ask her:

http://mt.swire.com/programmes/intl/profile3.aspx

I can't understand why they would let someone like this to lead MPC...

I believe they'll only have to requalify for 120k. But if they don't really travel anyways, I highly doubt any of them - probably less than 1% of those who got DM from AMEX - would suddenly fly 120k per year to maintain DM status.
