also please note that with CX ticket you can choose BA one way.
if you think you sleep better on flat bed, take BA on night flight and CX on day. I sometimes take BA HKG-LHR if I need connect at LHR, depend on terminal.

Is it just me, or does (even NNCW) give anyone a pain in the back after a few hours sleep ? I generally have to angle the bed a bit off horizontal
to get a decent sleep ... I am about 6' ish, but don't think that the bed is too short for me, by the way.

Well I have previously posted that I prefer the CX J bed. I need to now qualify that with a non-bulk head CX J bed.
I flew last night from HKG - LHR in 81A and I am sure the bed does not go as flat as the other seats. I found I was not able to shimmy up the bed to the top in order to stretch my legs out straight. I then suffered from the same problem I have on BA of having to spend the whole night in foetal position.
Has anyone else noticed this or am I imagining it?
This impression could have been tainted by being spoilt on an op-up to F on the HKG-MEL and MEL-HKG sectors of my LHR-MEL trip home for Christmas.
BTW can now confirm that J class LHR-HKG and return has all plastic cutlery. Cutlery in F on the HKG-MEL return sectors was metal except for the knife (Aussie regulations).

Hi - sorry to ask some basic questions but:
Are all CX J tickets miles-earning eg. I class? Also what lounge access does it get you, esp. does it get you into The Wing? How far does the J seat recline? Finally how many asia miles do you need to upgrade from J to F for LHR-HKG and HKG-AKL?
THanks
John

You get access to the Business class lounge at the WING or PIER.
Not sure about the asia miles question.

When CX reconfigured the recline of their J seats they had to take out the second tray table under the PTV. Now on the 34D the bulkhead seats (11ACDGHK) still have that second tray table (though for DG that's because it needs to prop up the bassinet). It might be said therefore that bulkhead seats still with that second tray table therefore have the old recline.
Having said that I did not notice any substantial difference, mainly because I find it virtually impossible on CX J to get the seat to a position where I have had it before. If you can get the sweet spot on the seat I am out like a light - if you can't then I toss and turn through the whole flight.
As for deadheads, it depends which route. AFAIK MNL has quite a lot of deadheading cabin crew (who are not entitled to F); SYD/MEL/AKL have a lot of deadheading flight crew.

Did the YYZ-HKG flight at the weekend which did not change my opinion of the seat much at all. I got enough sleep - but kept waking up after sliding down the bed, too much pressure on my hip. It is slightly better in the Z position but I still think if you are 6ft or under BA wins hands down for the seat. I even find BA better for sitting in.
Needless to say though, the onboard service was impeccable but a little more catering on a 20 hour flight would have been nice.
