CX or BA?
I have not had the opportunity to travel in the 'new' CX business class. What is it like? I have the choice between BA & CX ... which one should I take? I will be travelling LHR-HKG. I know what BA is like ... but want to know if CX is better? Any comments?

CX on board service is renowned as being among the best in the sky.
On a good day BA can match that if you get a good crew, but realistically BA can only very rarely top CX for service. And the CX lounges in Hong Kong are also something else. But if it's a long flight, where sleep is a priority, the BA fully flat bed in Club World can trump better lounges and service, depending on your personal preferences: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/cwexp/public/en_us Particularly if can get a seat on the tranquil Upper deck of a 747. BA have recently re-furbished the CW bed, with softer cushioning and new larger pillows for a better night's sleep. And of course you get the free spa massage at LHR. Both are excellent products; my advice is to choose on schedule and your preference for sleep or service. Don't forget Virgin also offer their terrific Upper Class LHR-HKG, which easily trumps both if your corporate travel policy allows it: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb...lass/index.jsp |
BA for the bed, CX for everything else. Depends whether you want to sleep, or do 'everything else'.

Oh ya... on BA, in Club World, all cutlery are still PLASTIC.
On CX, at least the majority are METAL. |
Really? I just flew BA F EWR-LHR and all the cutlery was metal... and CX F HKG-LHR all the cutlery was plastic...
Does CX J get better cutlery than CX F? |

I did BA Club World from LHR to Vancouver on 30th Nov returning on 11th December and we had all Metal cutlery for all meals both ways. ( Does routes to HKG have special requirements?) Although the LHR lounges had all metal , the Vancouver lounge had plastic cutlery. Merry Christmas Regards TBS |

I believe the only flights with plastic cutlery are the ones on the Australia route.
I recently enquired on a flight to SIN why BA were still using plastic, as SQ has had metal cutlery back for ages. I was told it was an Australian requirement and they weren't able to handle both types in SIN.... |
Sorry my mistake then. My last NCW flight was on Nov 3rd and it was still the horrible white picnic plastic utensils. I'm glad to see that all metal has returned to the helm.

I would opt for CX unless the seat is that important to you, go ahead and try it as you already know what BA is like.

I flew CX LHR-HKG on 22 Dec in J and the knife was plastic, fork and spoon metal. On the HKG-MEL leg of the same trip all the cutlery was plastic.
I am going to be the 'other side of the coin' in this discussion. I prefer the CX J bed. I find the BA bed too narrow and claustraphobic and is too short for my 6' 2" frame. I don't have any problem sliding down the bed on CX that some report and am always able to get a really decent sleep on these flights. As other have posted the service is great on CX. I just wish they would serve something other than breakfast as a second meal when the flight arrives in the evening! |
