@Top: Agreed. That's very helpful and what I was thinking too. It will need an ops decision (either internal at CX or forced through an HKIA ground stop - the two likely married anyway, haha GDS pun intended) before CX will pay for a reacom via other carriers, probably via JV/OW partners then branching out from there. That's likely not going to happen in the next 24 hours, considering the variability of Ragasa for now - some reports say it's picking up some speed. Looks like I'm headed to the LAX QF lounge as scheduled, hoping a CX rep will be helping out at their desk for F/OWE pax.

Update: Was able to speak to CX ops (got through after a 4.5 hour wait time). Exactly what was said above @Top.
I do wonder however, if one was stuck at HKG during a Typhoon ground stop, are the CX lounges still open? Anyone with practical experience?

All flights to HKG 23/9 and 24/9, all flights from HK 23/9 and 24/9 and some flights 22/9 eg CX113 zeroed out
But nothing officially cancelled so still is a crapshoot

JAL cancelled both their 24/9 flights already. Havent touched their 23/9 flights just yet - latest leaving 4pm still running.
CX still doing nothing, but latest flexible ticketing guideline now makes 25/9 refundable.

unverified sources mentioned that there will be aircraft stabled away from HKG to ensure operations when tenable to do so. So there will be last frames that will be able to get out on 23 and may not return till late 25. Expect knock on delays on the WX clearing.

Take for example: CX251/252 HKG-LHR-HKG. I'm guessing:
- CX251/23Sep will cancel (which turns into CX252/24Sep)
- CX251/22Sep will operate but not operate CX252/23Sep as it will be affected by WX upon arrival in HKG the following day; therefore that airframe will stay in LHR to operate CX252/24Sep

SL member here.
Was supposed to depart on CX 822 @ 1800... HKG-LAX on Tues, but decided not to take the risk.
Rang CX up when I got their SMS that flight rebookings were now FOC.. after about a 20-min hold, managed to snag one of the last seats out today.
At the rate Ragusa is spinning, looks like it'll hit HKG in the early hours of Wed... so I'd assume there'll be a mad rush to clear the decks and get flights in/out by Tues night latest, before HKIA begins buttoning down.

I am developing a visceral loathing for the CX hold music and never want to hear that woman say "Please continue to hold we will answer as soon as possible" My definition of as soon as possible is definitely not Cathay's.
Also Whatsapp no response.
The website chat seems to have given up
On top I cannot manage my booking which only says 'contact customer service' because the previous flight on my itinerary was cancelled and I was rebooked on an alternative flight.
The crazy thing is before Ragusa hits I can leave HKG earlier and be flexible.

Diamond here and 90 min hold then another hour to find a solution. In the end they refused a re-routing on a half used redemption business long haul via London and gave me a new one way on miles from another European airport to HKG today but without a connecting flight within Europe. So all being well will be back well before it gets really bad and they say they have put my existing return flight on hold for a future utilisation before June 26. Also I have pay to get to the new departure airport within Europe. All a bit strange and I am well out of pocket for the enforced one way cash flight within Europe.
