The Typhoon Ragasa Help Thread
I have a late flight out of HKG next Tuesday night, when it looks like Typhoon Ragasa will be near to HK. I'd really like to not get stuck in HK for any extra time, so I'm wondering if it would be worth calling Cathay to see if I can change my flight to be a day earlier without a fee, even though there's no waiver in place yet. Is that something they have the flexibility to do, or should I not even bother? I know I can also log in online and change my flight for a fee there, but if there's a chance they'll do it without a fee, I'll get over anxiousness and call.

1. If you can figure it out and/or afford it, rebook for 23/9 or before, 26/9 or after (Im holding duplicate redemption, hoping to cancel original booking under (2))
2. Wait for flexible ticket conditions for Ragasa https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_...ml?cxsource=nc

On a related note, am flying out next Tues 6:22 PM from HKG-LAX on CX 882... a little wary about Ragusa being danger close (it's currently forecast to skim past HKG next Wed)...
Based on historical precedence, should I be worried about this flight being cancelled?

*Edited: there is no 714 on 9/23, so if i needed to switch, i would need to leave the night before
Is it worthwhile to switch out of 658

I received an email for my CX658 on 9/23 informing of the waiver. The point to consider now is if that the flight can realistically land before T8 hits. The outbound leaves a day before as CX 711 so there is a chance they may anticipate and cancel altogether. The alternate, and has been seen for Singapore ops is that CX has switched the frame use and make 711 return as 714 and making 715 return as 658 to keep utilization tight.

Looking at storm tracks, Ragasa seem to be intensive already on 9/23

I know there are published waiver codes out there for Ragasa now, but what's Cathay's policy on placing you on other carriers ahead of something like this if one was transiting *through HKG? XXX-HKG-YYY on CX in paid J - in HKG connecting on the 24th. I know this isn't yet an irrop and the ETR (electronic ticket) is likely still in open status, but will they move you to other carriers (ie JL via TYO) if there's no flexibility in date/times to still fly on CX?

Insiderdude and altalk08 still very much you fix yourself and then work on a pro-rated cancel refund if they do cancel.
