Finally encountered this dreaded rule change on FFP policy!

Most of the flights have been H or above so I put everything on my OneWorld EMD account. This time, I tried to change the Q flight to CX/BA but they didn’t allow it at the Pier F.

Well, a couple hundred so no biggie but that really changes my habit of baby intra-Asia discount Y flights.

Pretty customer-unfriendly tbh.

Sorry but I do not understand your post about Oneworld EMD and changing from Q to CX/BA.

worth a shot to retro claim with CX? if none goes into your OWE a/c?

I was reading the Royal Air Maroc status match to OWE yesterday https://viewfromthewing.com/you-can-...c-match-offer/ (I am already AT OWE, but I did mine BIS under booster and wanted to see what they're demanding for a direct match) and noticed an interesting side discussion:

Is this another "ideal" Cathay City is trying to realise on Earth (well, CX lounges, anyway)?

The flight I was taking this morning had the fare code of Q. Q gave you nothing but a bagel in QF/AA for example. I believe only BA/AS has some but not a lot.

FFP# removal

Just had some recent experience for removing FFP# to share.

Did online chat (English channel) yesterday, was told that FFP removal is not allowed under current system. Did it again today (Traditional Chinese channel), was told that removal can only be done via hotline. So tried calling, and the Cantonese agent removed it in seconds. Presumably they have the OTP verification process over phone, which is considered more secured in editing FFP.

Will try it once but I doubt they would allow it, especially when the policy is clearly stated and enforced effective Nov 14 2025.

I guess they had a hard time with all of the IT security changes for FFP switching. The immense difficulty of switching FFPs kinda refreshed my memory of one PNR. CX stock, involuntary reissue, first flight after all changes was IB. When I checked in with my grandma, the agent mistakenly put my grandma’s FFP on my reservation. Afterwards, she simply couldn’t change it. Systems kept throwing her errors. Gate agent of IB changed it but only for that segment. Had to go to MAD CX gate to change the rest. The CX flights were credited but not the IB segment (Full fare Y). Still working to get the retro credit with AA. Now that you mention the check-in will lock the FFPs it all makes sense now.

That was just NOV 12 at the outstation btw.

Not changing an FFP. I removed to blank.

Selected a first row economy seat by CX DM. Then, I removed the FFP. Today at HK station, there is an "outstanding" fee due to selecting a charge seat.

Tried to remove FF# at the checkin for the first sectors, but was told it had to be all or nothing.

After the removal, the system (app and web) did not allow me to add my FF# back, with the error note indicating ‘only cx members can update their FF#’.. i am a cx member trying to add my cx ff# back btw.

Aftee the removal, one of my selected seats on an ex-KA aircraft was removed immediately, and changed from 12A to 18A.

Will try to have the ff# reinserted durong online checkin or airport. See what happens.

Reading this, I should still be ok? I'm not accessing any lounges.

1. Current booking has AM entered
2. Get TA to change FFP to RJ
3. Get free OWR seat selection
4. Don't do online checkin (not sure if it matters)
5. Airport check-in, remove FFP

Alternatively - what would happen if TA change my FFP back to AM after step 3? Will the seat selection stay?

Thank you! Glad procrastination is my middle name and I didn't try.
Did you pay at the end? Or did they moved u to some other random row?

After a quick calculation, I decided to put it back as it's just 6 pts, which won't affect my plan for 2025.

It's frustrating that we can't even get CX to attach our CX FF# to the Rez. The Rez was purchased today using CX miles. Even so multiple agents say now must be done at airport.

Reading this from the recent (11/14/25) update to terms helps to understand why they have discharged responsibility for adding even a CX # to the rez.
  1. To earn Asia Miles, Members must quote their Membership number at the time of reservation and provide their Membership number/card at check-in, when paying the bill or upon delivery of Partner products or services (as applicable). Some Partners may advise of different earning/crediting procedures, which should then be followed by Members.

It's ridiculous because the CX site doesn't always successfully attach the FF# during booking, so you're shafted for something that wasn't your fault to begin with.
