Before I call CX, is there anything I should be careful with? Will I still be able to check online without any FFP number? I am aware I will not be entitled to status benefits however I will have the class benefits of the cabin class (in this case F and C segments)

Should be fine as you’re in F/C. Only difference will be check in 24 hrs, not 48 hrs (members).

Not sure where you are heading to. You will be the last group of taking meal order when you are in C if it is an elite-heavy flight, not a problem if there is only a few passengers in C.

I have a trip in 2 weeks, flying in J with a stopover in HK, outport doesn't have F class lounge so I won't put my FF# at check in, can I add the FF once I arrive at HK for the HKG-SHA leg so I get access to the F lounge or I need to stick with no FF# on the booking post check in?
Not sure how to interpret it

You can add your FFP to a clean BP at any time. I assume you want retroclaim/ claim elsewhere for the first leg, so please double-check that when they add your FFP for the HKG-SHA leg, they are only adding it to the HKG-SHA leg and not to the entire itinerary.

I distinctly remember they can add FFP to specific legs, but I'm not sure after this recent rule change.

if you remove FFP at the check in counter , they will send you to line up at the nobody counter. you wont use the business counter . is this ok for you ? if not , then you will have the FFP on.

Not a problem for me. My home airport only have 1-2 manned check in counters. Everyone else, "nobody" will be directed to self-drop off.

thats good , then you can have the FFP off.
some ports will be full of people waiting in line , then that might be touble for someone who dont want to be line up.

I have an upcoming trip booked through Chase Sapphire that did not allow for entering FFP. The first segment is on AA with CX flight number and the following two segments are on CX. To my surprise, I was not able to add my EXP AA number to this reservation on the Cathey website. AA EXP desk was able to add my AA number and I am now able to select better seats on the first AA segment. Is there is simple way to check whether CX system has my AA number attached to the reservation? I simply do not want to arrive to HKG to find out that I do not have a lounge access.

Have you retrieved your booking on CX site using the booking code chase gave you?

from a strict reading of the new T&C that means

once you complete ONLINE check in - you have no chance of changing, even at the airport?

people who are affected
1. those who redeem on another program (e.g. status-less BA) which doesn't allow you to change FFP number easily

2. Another group that i see affected are those who are changing FFP programs - e.g. BA to MH. i am lucky that i have now managed to switch from BA to MH Emerald - i.e. for a while this year i had to rely on my BA status to go into the lounge, whilst crediting to MH to build up new status...

I managed to change my BA redemption on QF FFP within 5 minutes of calling into BA toll free as status-less on 16 Oct midday HKT. Not particularly painful.

Presumably if BA can change FFP for their tix on QF, they shouldn’t have too much of an issue changing FFP for their tix on CX.

Was this after checking in/collecting boarding pass?

Before - right after ticket issue

Thanks - I guess the key question for me is whether this can be done by customer services post check in/BP given it sounds like CX staff not allowed to do so any longer. Or is that too late...?

CX acting as if all tickets travelling on their flights are subject to below rule, whether issued by them or not (incl by BA as Avios redemptions):
