CNS is seasonal only for 15 weeks.

as for BNE, wait for CX to finalized their schedule. They only started to confirm their NW24 schedule these few weeks.

SQ makes CNS work all year around.
probably can negotiate better rebates from local governments

I'm pretty sure that Singapore Airlines doesn't fly from Hong Kong to Cairns.

No
but obviously you are in denial that HKG and CX are diminished post covid compared to SQ and SIN.

A mere regional hub at best that can't sustain flights.

"Mere regional hub" with fights to multiple cities on almost every continent from multiple airlines, with ninth in the world number of seats on international routes scheduled for July according to OAG, beating Doha.

And this on the basis of starting with seasonal instead of year round flights to Cairns, a tiny Australian city where not even enough HK tourists visited in 2019 to justify a direct connection?

Cathay is doing well with the cards it was dealt and it’s growing in ways it can. It’s also not a government subsidised airline

Just want to point out that

Australia had limited HKG-SYD/MEL/PER/BNE to 70 weekly flights.
At the same time, Mainland China, Taiwan or Singapore has no restrictions. I know some of the 2nd or 3rd tier mainland China cities will give out heavy subsidies just to launch a transcontinental flight.

CX additional service was limited to different competitors, just talking about HKG-Australia service means nothing.

even CX have not used up the 70 flights quota in May, they are only filling 71% of the seats for the AUS/NZ region in May 2024.

how about resuming:
HKG-EWR
HKG-BRU

these routes may no longer have enough demand.

1. Seattle is getting a ton of new capacity now, and fares have already started to plummet
2. Newark probably does have demand, but goading United would be idiotic
3. "Goading United" would also apply to IAD, but I don't think demand is strong enough there anyway

majorpuppy Jul 3, 2024 12:21 pm

these routes are probably gone forever due to low demand even pre covid and now the market has completely changed. not to mention some foreign airlines are never coming back to HKG.

personally I think the best resumptions are ADL and FCO, then maybe CX could try new routes

I'm fairly confident that EWR will return eventually, but probably not until US based airlines are permitted to overfly Russia again.

But the ban of flying over Russian airspace is a US decision for their airlines. AA used to code share CX's JFK HKG until this ban came about.

they do have demand to Asia.
CX is just a weaker brand and has been outsmarted by competitors.

claiming they dont have demand when youncompetitors are thriving there is false.

Yes
So true but most on here think CX is doing well.
