Truth be told, banks probably forced OCL to add caps rather than unilaterally cut benefits
AAVS provides some "stickiness" to card accounts that detract cardholders from termination, a bit like autopay.
So they are still happy to provide a benefit, provided it's a capped handout.

By the way, an octopus card can be registered to different accounts. I was struggling with an issue with the mobile reader, called customer service and took opportunity to ask them this question.

So essentially, every time someone with credit card linked AAVS uses their Octopus, the bank loses money? As there is no way the Octopus surcharge on merchants can be high enough to satisfy their own margins, AND allow banks to give out 1.5% in cash back.

Banks have been pretty aggressive about advertising using CC to link AAVS to earn miles and cash back... will this benefit one day stop, like PayMe eventually will?

OCL earns 0.6% interchange https://web.archive.org/web/20031020...lish/app1e.pdf from which it pays a portion to bank (assuming its pricing model is like Visa)

With taxis it was said to be as high as 1% but there's probably higher operating costs for taxi collections.

So how is OCL supposed to fund my 2% cash rebate out of this? The banks must be chipping in.

Well, the new restrictions on the oepay/OCL end let banks have their cake and eat it too.

Received notification regarding Citi Prestige increasing the annual fee to HK$3,800 which I find ridiculous.

A question about the Annual Relationship Points - which earns me $5.22 per mile with my 30% bonus.

The bonus points are given around one month after the annual fee is paid. Does that mean I will not get my bonus points if I cut the card once they charge the annual fee?

(I have the Citi Premiermiles if that makes any difference).

For 2018 mine was credited in the same statement when my annual fee was billed.

Since (either by Code Of Banking Practice or simply by tradition) I am eligible to hang onto a fee-paying card until the statement due date, it is open for me to redeem out the relationship points along with any remaining points in the period between billing date and due date, then cancel the card before due date.

You seem to have misread the notice. The increase does not apply (for the time being) to existing cardholders. This is discussed up-thread.

It's only a matter of time though before the axe falls on us grandfathered cardholders.

I've been on the phone with Citibank card center. I just finished the call.

After passing my call to 4 people, the final guy said the bonus points for the previous year are given only after the annual fee is paid for the following year.
So if I don't pay the annual fee when it is billed, I don't get the bonus points.

(I said that means I'm being forced to pay for an extra year, just to get the bonus, even if I don't use the card. They guy said yes.)

Did the CS agents you talked to get confused about the relationship points and the annual renewal gift points?

It makes no sense to cancel the card this year based on another year’s fee if you are happy to pay $2500 in the meantime. When the grandfathering clause is removed, THAT is the time to assess the then-current benefits against the fee.

The increase applies when your current year ends. So the next annual fee will be $3800.

I made it pretty clear it was the 30% bonus for holding a Citigold account for 10+ years.

He said that the bonus points based on relationship duration is only given AFTER payment of the annual fee for the subsequent year.

I trust you asked the right question.

But I'm looking at my 2018 anniversary month statement with the annual fee billing and what they are saying is patently incorrect.
