CX 713 skip second leg

Flying to SIN in a few weeks in F...first CX flight ever for a wedding. Groom just decided to do his bachelor party in Bangkok. It's an AA award flight so I can't change the final destination without forking over another 50K miles or so. There is a flight that goes to SIN from HKG via BKK. I'm not checking a bag so is it safe to assume that I get off in BKK on CX 713 and be ok?

The other option is to fly to SIN, take one of the budget flights to BKK/DMK from SIN but that seems silly to me if CX713 is open for award travel.

Thanks for the advice in advance!!

It sounds like a good plan, but if they find that you are missing on the second leg, your onward flights may be voided. (I was in Beijing several years ago when I received a call from KA to ensure I entered PEK because PEK immigration had no record of my arrival. Actually that was because of some IT problem in the immigration system, but I was puzzled how information was passed back to KA.)

Sometimes for stopover flights, airport security will check the boarding passes of passengers leaving the aircraft, to ensure that everyone is going to their correct destination. If you don't have BKK as your final destination on your boarding pass, they might not let you "arrive" in Bangkok. I'm not sure what the procedure is for this flight, ie whether everyone gets off the plane, or only those arriving in Bangkok. Just raising the possibility that you might need a correct boarding pass to arrive in Bangkok.

Given the plethora of LCC flights ex-SIN, might it not be better to just get to BKK after arriving in SIN and avoid any contingent issues with 'disappearing' mid-flight effectively...which is probably a no go in any case if booked as a r/t. I think CX do do a Pax count on such intermediate hopping flights..

I've done the return, SIN-BKK-HKG. Connecting passengers remain on the plane whilst it is cleaned and boarded by passengers joining from BKK. The crew did go through the plane with a manifest to check that the passengers remaining onboard were entitled to, checking BPs as well I believe.

I'm not sure what they would do if there was a discrepancy, i.e. one passenger missing.

Didn't fly CX but I did a UL flight between HKG-CMB via Bangkok. GAs do ask for your BP before ebteribg the terminal therefore not worth the risk of being refused entry (they may suspect you wanting to seek asylum and theb overstay when it gets turned down).

Also they do count how many people left the plane and will do a check uf numvers don't match.

I'm guessing that there wouldn't be a lot the GA could/would do if the OP advised him/her that he wasn't going to fly the second segment. If the OP doesn't have additional flights on the same ticket, I see little downside in trying. In the event he strikes out, he can proceed with his Plan B.

Why don't you route US-HKG-BKK-SIN (BKK-SIN) on a different flight or next day if you really want to skip BKK-SIN? There are plenty of HKG-BKK that'll make your CX 713 connection in less than 24 hours.

I used CX713 from HKG to BKK recently and there were staff checking boarding pass at the airbridge to make sure the final destination was BKK. I deplaned there a few time also on some other flights continuing somewhere
else and my boarding pass was also always checked

Slightly off topic, and I vaguely recall discussing this here before, but why does CX fly to SIN via BKK? (BKK-SIN can't be a very lucrative route for them with only that single frequency.)

They've been oprating that segment for more than 15 years so I guess they must make money out of it.
But I agree with you, with all the LCC on that route, I think they are the only airlines still operating as 5th freedom, so I am not sure...

I think this is left over from when there were a fair number of onward flights from both BKK and SIN to sub-continental destinations. At one point, at least 4-5 flights from BKK continued to various points in India, and Singapore had a CMB direct flight.

I expected to see the BKK services end when the mini-hub was dismantled, but for some reason they didn't.

Back to the original post, it is very unlikely that you will be able to exit in BKK successfully holding a HKG-SIN boarding pass. This is not a connection and typically things are checked quite carefully by ground staff to ensure there is no (unintentional) mixup. Creating an intentional one is going to be hard going.
