Also they do count how many people left the plane and will do a check uf numvers don't match.
I'm guessing that there wouldn't be a lot the GA could/would do if the OP advised him/her that he wasn't going to fly the second segment. If the OP doesn't have additional flights on the same ticket, I see little downside in trying. In the event he strikes out, he can proceed with his Plan B.
