I've done the return, SIN-BKK-HKG. Connecting passengers remain on the plane whilst it is cleaned and boarded by passengers joining from BKK. The crew did go through the plane with a manifest to check that the passengers remaining onboard were entitled to, checking BPs as well I believe.

I'm not sure what they would do if there was a discrepancy, i.e. one passenger missing.
