If there are lots of seats available it's just a matter of hours/days before they call to confirm my seat, but you need to be a cool customer to wait till the last minute.

The seat is currently available, unless we're talking about two different flights.

You don't have to wait for the waitlist to clear, it might not https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...uto-clear.html

There has been at least one ocassion where I have to tell the CS agent:

"Drop my CX889 waitlist"
"OK sir, done. Are you ready to ticket?"
"Please add the CX889 immediately available seat, then ticket.]

OK - so I called MPC and they said if they dropped me from the waitlist - I would be charged full fare for the seat. He says redemption seats are not available, and the waiting list would be closed by Wednesday. Very confused so I'm having their manager call me tomorrow.

He also said there are ONLY 2 SEATS left on those 3 flights... which doesn't seem the case on expertflyer.com on the availability seat map results on those flights. Can you check this again please?

sounds like a noob agent?
Why dont u ask them as directly as possible in the first instance - is there an available PE redemption seat on XXX flight on YYY date?

Or maybe there is an IT issue w/ AM (phantom availability that online users are seeing?)

You won't be charged full fare for a one-way redemption, only one-way miles. Sounds like you have problems understanding and communicating with Asia Miles call centre (granted, you have to go a bit Taglish).

But the point is moot because you should be able to add the seat to your existing booking and send to ticketing right away.

If I were you I would've insisted on waiting til the supervisor was available and sorted this out directly.

No don't bother calling them back

Log into https://www.asiamiles.com/amwdsibere...NTRYCOUNTRY=HK and just redeem this immediately. Should be done.

Yes - I asked them exactly this. For 3 flights. Same answer. I also got the answer from the manager last week. No redemption seats available yet, and not guaranteed.

There are currently available redemption outbound seats and even for the inbound since lunch HK time . I don't know how come you have a net connection to post on FT but not be able to redeem the seats online. It's dinnertime now over here.

Or am I still going to see the pair of seats next morning when I wake up too?

So I checked the online redemption page you mentioned, and I think I know what's happened. I didn't mention my full itinerary... which is London Heathrow - HK (changeover) HK -Cebu (arriving 23/24 Dec depending on the waitlist). Although I believe in my very first post I did. It's just that this case has been open for so long that lately I've referred to it as London Heathrow-HK. My bad.

I inputted my full itinerary (final destination Cebu) on the page and it states that it's full. One of the agents also mentioned this, that the full itinerary is not open.

So now we know the Lon-HK route is open, but the HK-Cebu is full, would it be best to redeem that booking and find a HK-Cebu flight one way at this late stage. What a debacle! Surely CX must have a better user experience for passengers than this?

Your seventh post https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...l#post28836346 not your first https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...l#post28528013 - we might need some quick recaps when conversations go so far back.

We still have Christmas holidays over here - the CCP hasn't taken that away (so far). And we only need to take three days' annual leave to take holidays all the way to 1/1

Frankly it looks like chances you get an award seat to Cebu on 23-24/12 is very slim, limited cash seats either. Maybe plan alternative first?
Actually I have my own waitlist to worry - a Sat red eye to SIN (CX659 Feb 10 Sat) in J (U). Is it too early to tell?

premier_flyer Dec 19, 2017 11:10 am

Thanks for this info... Omission is not intended at all!

So - it looks like there are only a few possible seats for HK-Cebu (based on arrival time in HK)
CX 925 24/12 at 16:05 from HK - J1
CX 925 24/12 at 16:05 from HK - J4 C4 D3

D being the discounted business class seat...

Book the London Heathrow - HK on redemption and ticket the D then ...

Now you're going to have to fight for a seat with a thousand stranded Filipino domestic helpers after one of the TAs specialising in their travel failed to ticket the helpers https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...-stranded.html . Helpers go home via Cebu as much as (or even more than) Manila.

Upgrade Redemptiom with J0 C0 D0 I0

I just had a somewhat interesting experience. I had been on a waitlist for 9 January CX872 HKG-SFO since early November. Seats were wide open back then but I was waitlisted. Eventually it was sold out. However, I got a message from CX yesterday that my upgrade was cleared. EF showed F2 A0 J0 C0 D0 I0 W0 R0 E0 Y0 ... all 0s except F2. Somehow CX found a seat for me. I wonder if the flight was so oversold with Y and PEY vacationers that they decided to clear upgrades. If they cannot get $$$, they can at least burn some of their AM liabilities. Any opinions?

That just reads like J seat cannibalisation to me. Congrats BTW
