No, CX is just leaving everything til incredibly last minute.
Our weekend SYD tix were double reissues - my mate was return PE and mine were return Y. The outbound J seats weren't available til 84 hours before departure either. It's repeated reissues like these or last minute competition with the EXP grAAbers/MVP Alaskans. But I recently managed to snag 4 U seats to ORD, around T-21 this was. |

Waitlisted for an upcoming companion ticket, both ways. A few questions:
1. If outbound clears while return not yet available, can this be ticketed like a normal one way award with application for refund as others have described for normal awards? Each leg also has two segments (connect in HKG) but I only care about transpacific segment - is the reservation ticketable with only one segment confirmed? 2. Companion and I are both AA Plt (OW Sapphire). Any waitlist priority benefit to this? If so do I need to call to inform them? We have no status associated with our AM accounts. 3. Am I crazy to do this? Basically gambling on this clearing, risking having to buy an expensive last-minute ticket. Anyone with experience? Flights are relatively open, non-holiday timeframe, but desirable/convenient routing. 1. I've never tried to ticket a one-way companion ticket. However, in my mind I had a memory that I was being told (few years ago) it can be done but the miles required is the same. And if you successfully cleared your another leg later you can't reissue your ticket because your ticket is a one-way ticket. Once you cancel it your seat will be released and it's impossible to control who get that seat. So you basically have to pay another 100% companion ticket miles to issue another one-way ticket as you can't (or no guarantee that can) cancel that ticket and immediately grab that seat back for issuing a round trip companion ticket. But it is ok to ticket just half of your segment. Say your ticket is JFK-HKG-SIN, you can just ticket JFK-HKG-JFK and leave the HKG-SIN-HKG segment not upgraded 2. Seems no 3. Yes. Don't know how flexible your schedule is, basically what I do is to wait for the companion seat first and get the alternative available seat first until ticketing deadline. At deadline I'll issue my revenue ticket and ticket the companion ticket and continue to wait for the preferred flight. Once available change the revenue ticket and change the companion ticket as well |

As a CX fan I'm glad they're doing this, as any cash seat sold is better than having it gone to redemption...
It's only northern transit's profit then anyway.

Why not release no seats for redemption, like LCCs then?

Not necessarily, my cousin was asking me about redemptions to AUS, then he saw how discounted it is nowadays ($23k), went with that without much hesitation.
...except she doesn't want to. So my brother's family fly here instead during school holidays. I had to throw in a Europe side trip to make it appetising for them, all in J (four of them). My trading losses for the miles used in this detoured kangaroo route is still gonna be less than HK$23K/head. |
Combine Waitlists Wins???
Planning a trip a few months out (ORD-HKG r/t). Was going to redeem miles for the trip.
My dates have some flexibility. I selected the optimum departure and return date. I was able to get CONFIRMED on the return, but was waitlisted for the DEPARTURE. I could leave leave anytime 3 or 4 days before the optimum departure date. So, I am thinking of waitlisting maybe 3 more days for the departure as one-way. This means I would have THREE ONE-WAY waitlists and ONE ROUND-TRIP waitlist. (again, confirmed BUT NOT TICKETED on the return). I am wondering what would happen if I get CONFIRMED on one of those ONE-WAY days? Would I be able to somehow link the confirmed waitlists... combine whatever one-way gets confirmed first with the return flight on which I'm already confirmed? I suspect I could just call MPC and get it worked-out. Get them to combine the two waitlist "wins" on a single ticket. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm asking because it's a matter of points. It would be a round-trip. However, they might book as TWO one-way trips. I know that if they did that, then they would credit me once i flew both segments (and requested the credit). But I would need more points available now if they were to book them both as one-ways. My guess is that I'd be OK because I think the points are calculated at the time of ticketing... not when confirmed. |

If you cleared outbound in one PNR and inbound in another PNR (say the latter cleared later), your only option is to create a waitlist for the inbound flight on the outbound PNR, cancel the inbound cleared PNR and hope the seat "drops" into the outbound PNR so you can redeem return. Better chance if you perform the "drop" right after the second flight cleared. But it's not guaranteed - I've failed enough drops to redeem two one-ways if the seat is critical to me. Oh P.S.: if you ticket outbound on one PNR and inbound on another PNR, you are *not* eligible for return minus two one-ways miles refund either. |
Hello! Outbound waitlist cleared J to F, MPC rep mentioned a $100USD fee would be collected for the re-ticketing. Is this new? Wasn't able to find background on this with some searching.

I think I may have found an answer: (from the about Asia Miles page)
4. Can I change my travel itinerary after my award has been issued? Yes, flight awards can be reissued to another routing if completely unused, subject to the change having the same expiry date as the original ticket and being with the same airline. A service fee of USD100 or 10,000 Asia Miles applies for reissuance of flight award tickets or upgrades. Best regards! |
Apologies, this has probably been covered, but I have not been able to read through the whole thread to check - I hope you can forgive me for that?
I have a flight booked on CX in U for SIN-HKG-FRA in mid-Dec. I would like to bring this flight forward to early Oct, but currently there is absolutely no availability on CX. If I waitlist a flight on CX and it then clears, will I be able to simply change the date from my earlier, already confirmed dates? Assuming that I will not be able to do this online and I will have to call the MCP hotline, will CX wave any extra fees so that I will only be invoiced the USD20 change fee that would have applied for an online change? |
Yes you can
Sometimes you may be able to waitlist online... And if can't, USD40 sorry. No waiver will be given |
Seat REwards
My Apologies if this has probably been covered...
I booked a PE return flight using my Asiamiles for 23 Dec London Heathrow-HK-Cebu 2017, Cebu-HK-London Heathrow 23 January 2018. The inbound flight is confirmed, but the outbound flight not yet. I put this flight on request back in May. As a member, I have been in touch with Marco Polo Club several times however they are unable to tell me if the rewards seats for premium economy will open up at all. They are only able to tell me there are lots of paid seats available in PE. I would prefer to redeem my reward seat and I don't want to be in a position where it is 1 week before my departure date and I have no outbound flight yet! Does anyone have a similar experience? And any suggestions about how to solve this? |

Hi percysmith, I ran into similar situation as Gongzuokuang. I have booked a roundtrip award ticket with outbound waitlisted and inbound confirmed. I am also quite flexible in terms of outbound schedule, could be any of the CX flights within +/-1 day of my desired date. I understand what you replied earlier about the one-way waitlist. My question is that: can I technically book additional R/T award to waitlist other outbound flights (assuming there are also other confirmed inbound availability), and just ticket the R/T PNR with cleared outbound and cancel the rest ? I guess it's not encouraged to book extra (inbound) confirmed flights that I don't intend to ticket all. What would you do in this case? How can I use the flexibility to increase my chance here? Book additional outbound one-way waitlist, and maybe just do two one-ways if any of those becomes clear? Thanks in advance for your help. |
