Sorry for reviving this old thread, but I have a similar question.

I'm flying next week from YUL to HKG via YYZ in Y as a SL for the first time through a ticket purchased straight from CX that includes the WS codeshare service from YUL to YYZ (I used to purchase them separately).

Will CX staff in YYZ attach priority tags if WS tags it all the way to HKG? Or will WS have them in YUL?

I, too, am in a big rush to leave HKG asap as I have a commitment shortly after the arrival time.

Thanks.

HKG-DEL (CX J) tight 1hr connection in HKG

They might, but they probably won't. Seems to me previous reports we've had about them doing this were based on class of service, not status. I know that when I did an AA-CX connection at ORD last year, I realized in HKG that the AA agent in DCA had not priority tagged the bag (I was in Y), and CX had not put a tag on in transit. I hadn't noticed when I checked in because it was early and I was still half-asleep, and anyway I wasn't sure if oneworld rules provided for priority handling based on status.

AA will be able to check your bag all the way through to DEL. If this is one ticket they'll see the onward connections automatically. Otherwise show them your e-tickets for all legs. No need to collect/re-check in either LAX or HKG.

As a precaution, I usually show a CX agent the bag tag number I receive from AA. I thought I read once that this is helpful to make sure CX's computers correctly match you and the bag and know the bag should be loaded when you board, but it might be an unnecessary step.

My experiences connecting at both LAX and SFO suggested that CX would definetely put First Class tag for F (and maybe DM) connecting passengers checked bags. When I flew Business, CX never put Business Class tag.

Sometimes I take UA to west coast and connect to CX. Because of my UA status, my bag is tagged priority with UA. Many times when I get to my final destination (usually TPE), my checked bag is out with business class tag though.

Also at LAX & SFO, check-in agent will always ask if passenger needs to check bag. If you reply the bag has been checked through, agent will ask for your tag to input the number. Same experience goes to other Asian carriers.

Back when I was GO, and KA didn't fly to CNX, I was doing CNX-BKK (TG), connecting to BKK-HKG (CX), all in coach, on separate tickets.

The TG agent at CNX tagged my bags all the way to HKG. Being separate tickets, I had to clear immigration etc at BKK, and I did have to get my boarding pass from CX's counters @ BKK.
Maybe it was them, or someone sharp in their baggage ops, but the bags came out with the correct priority tags in HKG, and roughly in the order of priority.

How much time do you have until your post-landing appointment? Versus how long a connection in YYZ? Frankly, I find that baggage delivery in HKG is fast enough that, especially if you are standing in the visitor passport line at immigration anyway, the priority baggage is generally only a slight improvement. (Waiting for non-status visitors in the arrivals hall lately I'm averaging at most about 35 minutes from wheels down to them walking through the post-customs door, not much longer than it takes me with HKID and priority tags.) I wouldn't necessarily stress out about it if you have a tight connection in YYZ and re-checking is likely to lead to a big hassle.

I have around 3 hours in YYZ which should be sufficient.. I think my flight lands at 5am, and my breakfast meeting is at 6:30am in Central, plus I do have HKID. The thing that might be a hassle is actually the weight of my bag (about 18kg)..

FWIW,

CX829 for the past 2 weeks:
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/CPA829

This flight seems to always arrive 0.5-1hr early...just shortly after 4am.

Even say....it arrives late at 5:30, I'm sure you will be able to get to Central on time. Given you're taking the Airport Express.

Before AA starts to put the OW Prioirty label, my experience is that CX sometimes will put a priority tag on my bag, and sometimes not, during transit (and travelling in Y). However, whether the tag is there or not, my bag in general come out with the prioirty ones anyway.

Does anyone have any recent experiences with priority tagging on an AA-CX connection at JFK? I am connecting with AA J to CX F.

Either way it doesn't really matter as I've found HKG baggage handling to be super fast even without priority tagging and I'm in no rush to get anywhere when it's 5am in the morning.

Recent is a relative term, but the last couple of times I've done AA-CX (last year), CX would find my bags and attach a CX priority label on them.

this last week, on a AA-CX connection through JFK, my bags were tagged by AA with the AA orange generic priority tag. the bags came out without any CX priority tags but together with the priority bags.

A couple of months ago while checking in at the CX F counter in HKG, I saw a stake of generic orange Oneworld "Priority" tags (the kind that you insert between the barcode tag) beside the check-in agent's keyboard.

Perhaps those tags are used by CX when a passenger is connecting to another Oneworld carrier (either as a replacement to their own First/Business tags or in addition to their own First/Business tags)?

Somehow it seems like that if a bag is tagged with a generic Oneworld priority tag that retagging is not to be done down the line? I hope this new generic tag is a new protocol for Oneworld carriers.
