Either way it doesn't really matter as I've found HKG baggage handling to be super fast even without priority tagging and I'm in no rush to get anywhere when it's 5am in the morning.
Recent is a relative term, but the last couple of times I've done AA-CX (last year), CX would find my bags and attach a CX priority label on them.
