I wish my kids sports team felt the same way. They are tripping over themselves to go to tournaments in the states.

Air Canada is running three TPA-YYZ flights a day which is the number they were flying in previous years.

Is the size of the plane the same?

Same Rouge planes as before usually an Airbus 319 or 320.

Same for the MIA and FLL flights .... including multiple wide bodies daily.

It's fair to say that 2025 hasn't been the easiest year as far as relations between the United States of America and Canada are concerned. The first half of the year was marred by a trade dispute between the two nations, with bookings for transborder flights dropping as a result. With Canadian passengers subsequently looking to take their custom elsewhere, airlines from the country have shifted US capacity over to Latin American routes.

One US hub that has seen a particular drop on this front is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in Southern California. According to present scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, flights between LAX and Canadian destinations are down by 13.4% this month compared to December 2024, with seat capacity dropping even further, by a factor of 18.7%. Let's take a closer look at the current market.

A very small sample but have neighbours/friends who travel down to Costa Rica from the YYJ vicinity regularly (one set has property, the other family. Both have taken to flying via YYZ and avoiding a U.S. transit this year (have usually transited through the U.S. prior), though one set also considers the additional vet expenses a U.S. transit incurs there days.

As for land travel, I'd like to see what effect the photo requirements for land entry and exit is going to have.

That sounds like a painful detour but at the very least, it looks like WS started a once weekly YVR - LIR route on a seasonal basis.

Good news for the dogged people as their place is much nearer LIR. The other neighbour has to get to SJO and take a bus ride to the Caribbean coast almost as far south as one can get by road.

Canadian snowbirds flocking to sell their Florida homes amid Trump feud face huge losses

Canadian Real Estate Company Royale LePage surveyed Canadians who own US property.

They found that 54 percent are considering selling, the majority of who credit the current political climate with that decision.

'The polarizing political climate in the United States is prompting many Canadians to reconsider how and where they spend their time and money,' said Royal LePage president and CEO Phil Soper in a statement.

Study reveals latest Canadian sentiment toward US travel

According to the recent Blue Cross Travel Study, 76 per cent of Canadians are less inclined to add a U.S. destination to their travel itineraries in 2026, up 29 points from last year.

Ninety-six per cent of respondents cited at least one reason that makes them less likely to visit in the next 12 months. U.S. political or leadership concerns were among the main considerations, followed by trade disputes, a weak Canadian dollar, border crossing travel hassles and safety or crime concerns.

Someone suggested to me that many foreigners believe all Americans support the President. Has anyone found this to be true?

We are getting into OMNI territory here but the US has been very close to 50:50 over the past decade with a few votes in a few swing states swinging the election.

This.

On both counts.

Now as to the weak Canadian Dollar ..... well, not just CDN, but pretty much all currencies have been getting stronger compared to US $ ( :( for me since I'm currently based in BC but my funds come in US$ )

No change on FLL route, still several wide bodies from YYZ/YUL. FLL has a lot of snowbirds that travel back and forth. However there are no more wide bodies to MIA or MCO this winter, which is an indication of decreased tourist demand.

Nashville visits from our Canadian neighbors have been down 20% in 2025. Locals downtown say they feel the effects of the drop, especially in the off season when the hockey teams play. So I was surprised but happy to see Porter starting service from Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto to Nashville on a daily seasonal schedule. It’s a small 78 seat plane, but hopefully it reverses the trend.

Flying to the US from YTZ has always been a pain since you have to clear US Customs upon landing often in long lines with passengers coming from overseas. This will end in the Spring with YTZ preference.
