No. We wore masks and that's it. Actually we did it voluntarily and no one forced us to.

A friend intends to walk across the border at Niagara Falls, then have a friend drive her to Toronto, then fly to her home in Alberta.

Will this be permitted as-is? Will she need to have a negative result for her at-the-border test first? Does anyone have insights on this?

You need a US covid test within 72 hours of arriving at the border. They will take a covid test at the border but no result for 24-48 hours. Then you need to proceed directly to your place of quarantine which can be Alberta. If you fly into Canada you must wait at airport hotel for covid test result.

Okay, so technically you need to get that first test result before you can board a flight?

no covid test required to fly domestically within USA. Only to enter Canada by air or land. Then a second covid test at the Cdn border. Then a third covid test on day 10 of quarantine.

Not sure how technical it is, but you won't even get a chance to deal with Canadian authorities because one of the airline employees will NOT let you board a plane headed to Canada (Montreal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver only).

I am sure there are hefty fines involved if someone arrives at one of those airports without a test, and airlines don't like to pay fines so they tend to err on the side of not letting someone fly They make sure pax facing employees are aware of the rules.

I have been back and forth 7 times. Flights boarding to Canada are like going to Israel. Temp check. Sticker on passport. Covid test check. Very strict. Impossible to get on the plane without everything lined up. But this is the walking across the land border thread so none of this applies on US domestic flights.

Anyone tried to take a cab from Buffalo airport to Rainbow bridge, walk across, then get to Toronto? Can you rent a car on the Canadian side? I see an Avis in Niagara falls 20 min away walk from rainbow bridge.

Have you determined if Avis has inventory for your dates? As noted above, I tried a version of what you are wondering about for my friends. Even going as far afield as St Catherines. No inventory for a one-way rental. Status, if you have it, might make a difference.

Based on the responses, I think I asked my question poorly, so I'll beg your patience as I ask it again. And hopefully I'll do so in a clearer way.

Person A needs to get from Nashville to Edmonton. She is young so cannot afford the in-hotel quarantine and is also afraid of it, having read that story of sexual assault in a quarantine hotel. Her plan, therefore, is to fly from Nashville to Buffalo, take a taxi to Niagara, and walk across the bridge. Then she will have a friend drive her to YYZ so she can fly to Edmonton.

My question is whether she will be free to proceed straight from the border to YYZ and on to YEG, or whether she will either need to serve out her 14 days in Ontario or at least wait to fly YYZ to YEG until she gets the results of her at-the-border test.

Can anyone offer clarity on this?

Nothing according to the current rules would prevent this after a land border crossing.

That was my understanding. I'll encourage her to have a plan b, so if they insist she quarantine locally for either 3 days or 14 days, she has something worked out that will save her from getting sent to a hotel.

There simply is no local quarantine requirement for a land border crossing. Many small land border crossings are in remote rural areas. A land crossing involves passport check, immigration check, customs check, arrivecan registration, 72-hour negative covid test check all by CBSA, followed by a new covid test and being provided with a 10-day covid test by public health/red cross folks. Then (if you are negative) you are free to go directly to your place of quarantine wherever that might be in Canada.

The poster was asking about getting on a domestic flight after walking across the border. What you posted only applies to international flights entering Canada. No Covid test required for domestic flights.

By the way, Douglas is the official name for this border as people refer to it as Peace Arch and we couldn't find that name when filling the canarrive app.

I hope this helps. Cheers
What happened to the Uber driver, how close can he get you to the border, is he able to circle back, the Peace arch is a very long road to walk. Was the Uber driver ok with doing this?
I looked at the Pacific crossing and not many drop offs close, I know the Uber drivers can come in to Canada as commercial drivers and go back through US but not sure they would want the hassle.
I saw the Lynden crossing is very easy but it closes at 12am, our flights might be late.
