Presto is accepted as TTC payment at selected (quite a few if you check the Presto and TTC websites) TTC subway entrances.

... and will be accepted systemwide by the end of 2016, according to their current rollout schedule. Besides which, the Presto price of $6+19+19 is less than $27.50+$27.50 (there's also a cheaper round-trip ticket available online).

Trip report #1

I went from T3 to T1 to use the UP Train. I found that there is little information on how to get to any destination and the people working there and on the trains can't be relied on. I helped a person get to Sick Kids. It would be useful if they created some directional brochures for major destinations. I went to the Bloor station and there seemed to be only one Presto contact post (you have to hit it on the way out) - it's at the wrong end of the station if you are going to the TTC. The connection with the TTC is really a mess -I understand it might get better. The trip to Sick Kids was quick but the routing is not trivial - requires changing at St. George and so on. A simple solution would be a Google Maps screen and input at the UP station at T1 - and a printer. And I learned that the fare is less to Bloor than to Union.

I might consider it although with the limited number of trips I make to Toronto these days it may not be worth the bother to send for one.

Since I generally stay downtown and use the subway and/or streetcars to get around (I went to U of T in the late '70s ), it certainly would be nice to not worry about buying tokens and seeing them often rendered worthless with fare increases if I don't use them all!

Hoarding token is the only way to protect yourself from fare increase as the token is taken for full fare whereas tickets will need a add on or not accepted after certain day.

yes, because those 30 cent increases are going to put you in the poor house. how silly. just buy when you need. why lock up anything to save a few cents....just silly.

Tokens are going to be phased out next year, so don't hold on to too many.

Why?

Many major transit systems which had tokens phased out saw them increase in value to collectors.

I took the up express home yesterday (I live downtown) and surprisingly train was full it's my 4th time on it and fullest I have ever been. Most people were of south Asian background and seemed to be here for some mining thing.

Ok - so if you are holding on to them as collectors' items - by all means, buy as many as you can afford.

But, if you are holding on to them to use for future travel you may want to consider a Presto card instead.

Any money I've ever saved by hoarding tokens has been totally offset by the money subsequently lost when I inevitably lose half of those tokens.

Is that so? Read it again. There's no need to belittle my observation. The point was that people who use that train are not from Toronto and they need information. I personally guided a passenger to Sick Kids, going out of my way on my trip to do so. The people at the UP YYZ station and on the train did not have the information that person and others need.
