Meanwhile I am enjoying the kippers and scrambled eggs — a bit surprised they didn’t come with toast but I managed to get some extra.

Diamond Air is a service you pay for at LHR. They offer a £75 meet & greet service, where someone comes and meets you at the end of the jetbridge, and just walks round the airport with you.
They dont allow you to skip any queues, but they're handy if you're new to the airport and need help.
AA offer CKs a far far better experience!

Actually it might not be a phone call. He might just be talking super loudly to someone else in person!

Listening to a very loud phone conversation of a man who wants everyone to know how he’s taken a fancy meet and greet service called Diamond Air which wasn’t as good as the AA-provided service he’s used to. He also is taking full opportunity to gripe about how Air France did a better job, but when he arrived in LHR from a transatlantic flight he was (clearly parked on a hard stand and) met by a private car and didn’t have to take the bus with the other passengers to the gate they were assigned…

There used to be a line at the bottom of the daily lounge briefing that said something like:
"UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE ANY DIAMOND AIR STAFF ALLOWED TO ENTER THE LOUNGE"
.... make of that what you will, must be some history there I suppose!
