The sun always seems to be in my eyes heading south so I generally drive from Los Angeles up to San Francisco given the choice but am jealous of your road trip none the less. That PCH sure is a thing of beauty irrelevant of which direction youre going.

i usually drive it North to South so I’m just that little bit closer to the coastal scenery. Makes it easier to pull into parking spots for photo ops too.

Edit: for some reason I read this as a daytime arrival into HEL, followed by an overnight. I'd be straight to the Hilton, which is within walking distance (no shuttle needed).

HEL is one of my favourite cities, although I've only really visited in summer (apart from the 2020 "Do").
Lots of sightseeing, lots of good bars, decent shopping, and excellent and reasonably priced restaurants. I'd especially recommend exploring Suomenlinna if the weather allows it.
