There has been an issue with ba.com not showing any inbound availability unless you search for specific dates. See:
Inbound Avios Availability
First reward availability - no inbound on any route
Avios reward flight - no inbound availability

Hi friends,

I've searched around for a few days but haven't quite been able to find a definitive answer to my question. As I had read that I could add a return trip later on, I purchased a one-way WC upgrade with Avios and Cash for YVR to LHR next May 2024 as soon as it was available. However, I have exhausted my Amex MR/Avios so I would likely need to do a cash fare for my return/inbound leg.

Looking at BA's wonderful website, it looked like I could theoretically do an Avios and Cash purchase for WC outbound and WTP inbound but it didn't seem like I could do WC outbound and WT inbound.

Would I be able to add on a cash fare for a return from LHR to YVR? I tried phoning into the call centre but the agent wasn't too sure on what I would be able to do as my return date wasn't available yet (more than 355 days in the future).

I also tried looking into a one-way WT ticket from LHR to YVR and that was much much more expensive than I had expected...

Has anyone here added onto an Avios with Cash one-way fare before? Would very much appreciate your advice.

Thanks in advance!

I've managed to find a flight but had to use one of my BA premium companion vouchers. Poor that I couldn't use a normal BA companion voucher - will probably go to waste now.

I'm not sure you can add a return flight to an existing booking. What happens when you do so with an Avios booking is that you get a separate ticket and booking reference. Even if you had a companion voucher the same would happen although you would get half the Avios returned.

As for your problem have you considered just buying the Avios outright and then booking a reward flight in economy for your return? I just checked and there are 8 seats available in WT on 23 May 2024. The fare I was quoted was 30,000 Avios + 75 although you can then select various options as follows:

More pricing optionsYou can select when paying
  • 23000 Avios + 125.00
  • 16250 Avios + 215.00
  • 11500 Avios + 240.00
  • 8500 Avios + 265.00
  • 5700 Avios + 300.00
Oddly, if you value Avios at 1p the best option appears to be choose 8500 Avios +265

Reward booking into one city and out of another?

As the title says, is it possible to book reward seats into say SFO with the return from LAS (point of origin being london)? If so I assume that would need to be booked over the phone?

You don't have to book a round trip. Just book two one ways...I always do.

Wouldn't the total carrier surcharges be higher that way, since one of the tickets would originate in the U.S.?

Quite likely yes. Open jaw may be better in terms of tax/charges/fees, but yes it would require a call I am afraid.

I have a lot of miles and admittedly not booked on BA in years. But I am looking for a flight YYZ to LHR in J and it should be 100,000 but it shows it as 160,000 and it is definitely off peak.
It says 160000 Avios + $ 700.00 but then other pricing options are:

How many Avios do you want to use for your flight?

160000 Avios + $ 700.00
130000 Avios + $ 1,300.00
100000 Avios + $ 1,730.00
88000 Avios + $ 2,540.00
64000 Avios + $ 3,040.00
50000 Avios + $ 3,680.00

and each one says there is no Taxes, fees and carrier charges* per person

This if for 2024 booking.

And when I check YYZ-LHR-DUB rt is 190,000 plus (I know I can go ns but if I go with others I will burn a 241)

190000 Avios + $ 702.00

How many Avios do you want to use for your flight?

190000 Avios + $ 702.00
158500 Avios + $ 1,322.00
123500 Avios + $ 1,792.00
105000 Avios + $ 2,652.00
77000 Avios + $ 3,222.00
60500 Avios + $ 3,942.00

Am i doing something wrong? It should only be 116,500?

This is the new deal under RFS. The nominal Avios amounts you are quoting come at about the $1,700 cash level, which was what they were before. You now have the option to use more Avios and less cash.

Hi again, FT friends!

I am back to my quest of trying to book an Avios redemption flight from LHR to HND in F, but I am experiencing some issues with this. I see that there are seats available via JL0044 (codeshare BA4600) with solid regularity but there appears to be no availability when using the Book with Avios tool on any date I have tried. In addition, I tried to set up an alert via ExpertFlyer but for some reason I could not figure out a way to set up an alert for reward availability for JL flights (and when I choose BA instead, there is no F option).

Is there some kind of trick that I am missing? Maybe I need to port my Avios to JL to make the reward booking? BA’s Reward Flight Finder likewise shows no availability for the routing in F but surely that cannot be right.

Thanks in advance!

Availability of seats for cash sale has nothing to do with availability of seats for award redemption.

You cannot "port" your BAEC Avios to JL. You can only transfer your Avios to other FFPs which use Avios as their "currency." JL's FFP is not one of those.

Thanks for your response. I had thought someone told me there was some sort of ratio of cash to award availability but I am not entirely certain. How would I go about snagging them in that case or is this just an impossible routing? Do you know how the reward availability of JL is released?

See some of the threads that discuss JAL avios availability. Here are a couple (there are more):
Avios tickets from US to Japan
Japan in F
JAL premium classes are often released about two weeks before departure.
