In the middle of an industrial relations dispute it would seem odd to me that the CEO resigns unless there’s a boardroom power struggle and he’s forced out. As has been mentioned previously, this would be strange, unless there are factors we don’t know about. The only other circumstances I could see him quitting would be if he simply had had enough: for personal reasons.
His departure would plunge BA into choppy and uncertain waters at a time when it requires clear leadership. Maybe he’s not the person to lead the airline into the next decade. I think many on this site would agree with that.

That would be a huge surprise. CEO is there to make shareholders happy, not the company's customers (sadly). Fire him for delivering great results and containing the costs? For losing a bit of money because of the "greedy employees"? Looking at Alex's track record from the shareholders' perspective, he is doing just fine. I could be somewhat biased though as I believe WW is one of the best (if not the best) airline leader. Oh, well, guess I shall get my coat now.

Although things have not gone perfectly on AC's watch. The data breach fine and IT meltdown costs and now a strike are all profit off the bottom line that didn't need to have occurred. Add in the 261 compensation they paid during the IT troubles plus the fine and that could be reaching a 1/4 billion pounds in unnecessary cost.
