Dear
We're looking forward to welcoming you on board your flight with us from London Heathrow to Glasgow on 25 August.
We wanted to let you know that we'll be making a change to the aircraft operating your flight. Your flight will no longer be operated by a Boeing 747.
We understand that, after speculation on aviation websites, some of our customers booked on BA1482 hoping to be part of our birthday celebration. We’ll happily offer a full refund to anyone who no longer wishes to travel.
You'll be able to view the timing changes to your flight at ba.com/mmb in the next 24 hours.
If you would like to make a change to your booking, please contact us.
If you booked through a travel agent, please contact them to make any changes.

I rang up to get a seat booked. No window seats left however. No harm getting a seat selected

Given how little luggage and fuel is likely to be on board, performance should be pretty good on take off!
Having said that, it made me think about the logistics of a fully laden 747 (e.g. having been diverted) when taking off from NCL. The airport's latest Masterplan discusses the on-again, off-again plans for a runway extension (p35 onwards), and notes that Callerton Hill to the west of the airport is one of the reasons for this extension to reduce the trade offs which have to be made between range, fuel carried, and cargo/passenger load. There is an interesting indicative range map based on a 700m extension on p38 of the 80% performance of various aircraft.
I assume that even with a full plane of long haul holiday makers and baggage, the difference is that there is minimal fuel (and associated weight) needed to hop down to London, so taking off isn't an issue. By contrast operating a fully laden, fully-fueled 747 on a long haul route would simply not be feasible from NCL's current runway. But I am interested if anyone can supply a more detailed explanation/insider knowledge in relation to NCL!

I logged into Expert Flyer this morning and the flights to/from GLA were showing availability in CE again (J/C classes). I then logged into BA.com and was presented with availability of CE award redemptions for both LHR-GLA and GLA-LHR at 9,000 Avios and £25 per sector. But of course it wouldn't allow me to book it as a B2B on the website so I immediately called the Gold line but by the time I had got through the security questions the redemption seats had disappeared again. Fatest finger first fail...

You can book the rewards as two one ways online.
Technically you lose any protection but I see very little risk here - the turnarounds are 90 mins or more so I can’t see you could miss it.

Yeah, with hindsight I went for an over-engineered solution! So we are back to no availability (or close to) for these special flights, although the seat maps still show swathes of unallocated/blocked seats. We don't know whether/when more will be released for sale but it seems unlikely that all seats have in fact been sold already?
