Mid-J 747 Refurbishments
In April 2018 BA announced that they had started a programme to refurbish the cabins on the Mid-J 747-400 fleet. In January 2020, this programme was completed.

As part of the refurbishment all of the aircraft involved have undergone a basic refresh which consisted of:

* Full aircraft deep clean
* Seats in WT/WTP refurbished with new seat foams and cushions as on Super Hi-J aircraft

9 of the aircraft received an ENHANCED refurbishment to bring the cabin up to the same standard as the Super Hi-J 747-400 fleet. This consisted of what is listed above plus:

* New carpets fitted throughout
* All curtains replaced
* New Panasonic IFE fitted in all classes

Note: It was initially believed that the enhanced refurbishment included LED mood lighting throughout, but this is not the case. All retained standard lighting. There were no plans to install WiFi to any Mid-J configured 747-400 aircraft.
Refurbishment Progress
Note: Aircraft that have undergone an ENHANCED refurbishment are shown in red

To PHX ... CIVN ... IFE almost invisible/inadible, but I persevered.
From PHX ... CIVT ... beautiful modern IFE.

Both cabins (63a/b on the u/d) were clean and tidy ... no faults noted.

G-CIVP is currently on her way back from CPT. I wonder whether she will then go over to CWL tomorrow?

Doesn’t look like it. G-CIVP is planned to operate BA211 to MIA on Tuesday afternoon.

G-BNLY has been in Dublin since 25th Feb for repaint in the Landor livery as part of the BA 100 years retro livery initiative. Is it possible that some level of cabin refresh will take place at the same time?

It would seem illogical to me to not freshen her cabin up given all the attention she will receive upon the launch of that spectacular exterior.

In short, No. These paints are happeneing when the planes need them anyway. G-BYGE (I think) went to Dublin just before the BOAC plane and people got confused as to which was going retro. When they do paint they can’t do any work to the interior anyway so having the different livery is probably not costing a whole lot extra as due for paint anyway.

The interior refurbishment for G-BNLY according to the Wiki will happen in October 2019. Most likely to coincide with a major service where the seats have to be removed anyway. This is done at Cardiff. The paint hangers at Dublin would not be set up to do maintenance anyway. There is a method to the perceived madness and BA would have done the cheapest option....

I did see the Wiki but was wondering if the schedule could have changed
Thank you for the insightful answer. I now know that bit more about the different processes and facilities!

In regards to that I have no idea. It could well have changed and possibly could change before October, but I haven’t a clue. In regards to that information I have no other source but the above Wiki. Some BA insiders no doubt got the information but of course subject to change. It seems they are avoiding doing the refurbs during the busier summer season too. With a large gap from April until towards the end of the year.

Did flightradar24 - the best place for an outsider to look - have any information?

Not conclusive at all but Flightradar24 is showing IVC tomorrow but IVU unfortunately on Friday. Obviously could change.

I'm scheduled to take G-CIVP to CPT tomorrow. I suspect it will be one of its last rotations before heading off to CWL...

Fingers crossed for better luck on the return leg.

[EDIT: Sometimes I really don't understand BA's frame allocation. Hot-off-the-press G-CIVC is currently scheduled to fly the 18:15 to CPT, even though it only lands from Vegas at 14:55. G-CIVP, on the other hand, is scheduled to fly the 21:30, despite arriving from Miami at 12:40. Does anyone have any insight into how frames get allocated at T3? Perhaps G-CIVP needs 8 hours of hoovering between rotations...]

I've been tracking BA59 for tonight like you Hearingdouble (I'm also on it) and the good news is that Flightradar changed late last night from G-CIVP to G-CIVO - so it should be a refitted plane with new IFE.

G-CIVO arrived even earlier at 9:05am this morning from Denver- I guess that for the long layovers like that the plane is towed to engineering (I fear minimal hoovering based on the images on here) but for only just over 3 hours planes like G-CIVC will simply remain at the gate between flights.
