Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

I highly recommend the Malaysia Airlines sale - ends today.

Nabbed DEL-KUL-SYD-PER return for US$1.36k which should land me between 720-840 TPs and between 18,000-22,000 Avios.

DEL-KUL is a 737 but one of two daily flights are 330s so you can do widebody flatbeds all the way.

KUL-SYD is a rare A350 flight. And MH isn’t selling F on this, so J passengers with OWE status can select F seats for free. I snagged 1A!

SYD-PER is said to be business but QF only offering Y seats (hence the vagueness of TP earnings). PER-SYD is in J on QF however.

Always avoid 2 stop that sells MEL or ADL as a stopover from KUL, they only earn 40 TPs onwards to and from PER. Select SYD or BNE if offered.

Good to see some flyers take advantage of this route!

This is a standard fare, available after the ex-BKK sale ends today (well, about 15 minutes ago
I ended up booking a different run BKK-NRT-BKK-TPE, as the DEL-SYD-PER was close to 1800 USD for my dates, and avoided having to position to DEL.

Very cool, good to know this about the A350

This is something to watch out for on the Australia domestic flights, sometimes the Y creeps in. Book on the A330 if you can, for the lie-flat seats, better than the 737.

I have the same trip booked (with the 241 Swiss First from MAN to DEL) looking forward to trying the satay. It will make a pleasant change to arrive/depart PER at a sensible time of the day with the A330 on both legs!

Sadly the not all options were available and couldn’t get an A330 from DEL. Plus the return - if you want widebody all the way - isn’t ideal for those who don’t want to do overnight stops in SYD and added hotel costs.

As for SYD-PER, if you get a Y surprise, you get fully-flex Y and 70 TPs with a similar number of Avios - just 500 less than J at little more than 4,000 miles.

Swings and roundabouts.

If I booked earlier, the fare was available for US$1.1k. Even better for mileage earnings.

I know the MH 737 J seat all too well on TPE-KUL runs...and not in a favourable way.

Was trying to match your routing just to MIA and back, but couldn't get any results on ITA. Phoned AA to have them book it, but they said they were limited to 6 segments maximum -- and even then, the routing was not considered valid. How did you book? Also, if I venture down to PTY, which hotel do you recommend?

Sadly the fare that msm2000uk took advantage of no longer exists. Since that time the fare has been refiled a couple of times... The first change (about 6 months ago) was to add a requirement for at least 24 hours at the destination, and then more recently it was refiled with the now almost common restriction of only 2 transfers allowed in each direction

Results from https://www.ExpertFlyer.com

i just finished an lax to pty run last night....now completing my final 5 flight from phx to otp via hel.
all i can say is the pty run with 16 sectors is very shattering. I have no idea what day or time it is.
its good for the waist line tho as ive only had 3 full evening meals in the past 8 days.

i have to say careful of miami as my flight got cancelled due to weather and luck was on my side as the pty flight was delayed too my rebooked flight and a run to the gate in miami got me there just in time.
ive done my gym workout for the year.

was just gutted i missed the meet in phx when i checked into the hotel last night and asked how the weekend was the guy said it was crazy busy with people staying juat the one night. So sounds like it was a good meet.

Doh! Sometimes, having knowledge to too much stuff causes the most bonehead errors...like checking the rules of fares. Even worse when I have ExpertFlyer.

Yup. There's NO WAY I could do that. Way too much craziness on subpar planes. Impressed by all those who have, though. ^

That's why I was trying to run LAX-MIA. Sadly, the shorter haul multi-hops on the West Coast are still the easier things to handle.

All ears if anyone has better ideas.

Nah. The RGN F fares were exceptional. BA OSL-JFK in J for something like £500 was also awesome. BRU-TYO for €600.

They do crop up, but unfortunately there's no predicting it!
