Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Firstly, position yourself to DUB or AMS or even INV. Then from there looknto do Something like LHR, IAD, JFK, LAX and return. You should be able to find something in J for around £1500- 2000 but limit any stopovers to 24 hours. Any more and you will pay higher fares.

A direct DUB/JFK will also save you time as not going to LHR but will reduce TPs.

Alternatively, if cost is a factor, book your cheapest Y flight and then book separate flights across the US. Won’t be as comfortable and not earn anywhere near the same number of TPs.

Hello everyone. For the TP runs (for example the AMS-HKG) - I have been playing around with the dates and routes and was just wondering how long I can do that until the fare is gone. Does the Matrix show any final date to book that fare or is it just subject to availability in I class? Dont't want to miss it by playing around for too long.

Thank you

The AMS one doesnt have a "book by" but more an Advanced Purchase meaning you can only buy it so many days in advance the advice normally given though is book when you can as BA have been known frequently to pull fares as soon as they have sold enough seats even when it doesnt have a "Sale by" date,

Hi all,

I am based in Dublin and looking at doing a tier point run in May. I am based in Dublin and want to do a business class run to somewhere for under €500. I am flexible on dates, but if it could be departing on a Friday or Saturday in May and coming back Saturday or Sunday, that would be best.

I have looked at the wiki and am coming up with €461 to HEL, but if anyone has any more creative way to get more TPs, I would be much appreciated. I am on Qatar Airways PC, so need about 80 q points, which I believe is about 160 TP.

Thanks for any advice!

on BA its showing as 500 TP for trip but that seems to include 80 for the SFO-PDX but as its on Alaska(BA ticket) will i earn 420 or 500 TPs?

Looks like a 4 night minimum stay is needed, some reasonable prices LHR-NYC/IAD from Oct coming in from £1320

I’m about to book DUB-LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL-LAX-JFK-LHR-AMS, with almost every flight on AA.
Is there any advantage ‘phoning up to book this through BA, rather than using powertools from Matrix?
(crediting it all to BAEC)

thank you

No book it via AA as they are usually more amenable to schedule changes and reroutes

Is it a BA Flight number or an Alaskan flight number as its this that is important

Can usually tag on INV to these as an open Jaw or R/T for more TPs You can get round minimum stay usually by adding a hotel / car and making it a BA holiday in most cases, and "Forgetting to collect the car" sometimes it even works out cheaper than the flights alone

Not clued up about how the QR PC Credits, but on BA if you needed 160TPs you could do DUB - LHR - HEL r/t in CE, You can even make it cheaper by reducing the price using avios but given you are crediting to QRPC this wont really be an option. Also consider the regions e.g DUB - LHR - GLA/EDI/ABZ/NCL in CE as that would also get you 160Tps on BA but again unsure what that is on QRPC

Book on AA, You can even call them and feed them the flights and booking details saying that you cant get it to work on the Multicity tool, Can you tell me the price you got his for? I am about to embark on a CAI - HNL run for 1280- TPs for ~£1500

Slightly more avios (150% vs 125% for business class, plus any tier bonus - which will be the same). This only applies if you're on the BA codeshare, so there may be differences in availability, but the downside is that it may be harder for AA to see and manage your booking if anything changes (it's AA so that's far from fanciful).

Hi

I am trying to book the famous LAX-PTY TP run. I have found several routings in ITA matrix including the following and can easily book it on AA for 1 person with either the Powertools extension or on BookWithMatrix. However, when I try to book for 2 people, AA says the fare is not available and gives me lots of DFW options which I obviously don't want. I class is available for all sectors. Is it a 2 person glitch or something I'm missing? Help much appreciated. I guess I could always hold 1 fare and then call to add 2nd person if it's a glitch.

If you are booked on a BA marketed AS operated flight that would earn TPs and avios. SFO-PDX should only be 40 TPs for that flight though.

AS operated flights booked under the AS flight number or AA flight number earn no TPs.

Looks like it's 80 TP for the return SFO-PDX, and 500 for the entire return trip, due to the insane idea of flying from LHR-SFO without stopping.

DUB-LHR-HEL will get you 240. Add positioning flights with one leg in CE and you're at at least 285 for about £550.
