I would agree with the assertion that if you're launching Club Europe within the UK and one of the advertised benefits of said CE is lounge access then it seems a tad bizarre to then close all of the domestic lounges.

Unless you believe BA is only launching CE on domestics to garner more cash for the available seats, but has no intention of providing any customer service.

In airports where BA does not have a steady stream of flights all day, the trend has been to convert the lounge into a third party (e.g. Club at PHX) or operate it for another carrier (e.g. PHL is effectively a QR lounge in the morning). In most cases a lounge has still been offered (often the same lounge, just without the BA branding. For example, the PHX lounge still has furniture from the Terraces concept.

So while some might be surprised, I'm honestly surprised they haven't gone in this direction sooner given their current approach to management. They're looking for small steady cuts to make. This is not to say that I approve of this change if it happens, just that it would be consistent with their current trend.

There are many locations that offer CE with no lounge and if they do, can resemble a pig sty. I would not be surprised if this is yet another enhancement. Don't be fooled by BA advertising ...They even say they offer good appetising meals in business.....Sometimes they are better at comedy gags than service delivery!

Apparently BA are now asking the question on why they are maintaining separate lounges in the domestic out-stations (ABZ, MAN, NCL, GLA, EDI) given their current cost focus.
Maybe BA should ask the question why they are maintaining separate planes and staff. Why not just get easyJet and AA/AY/QR to operate all their flights.... then they won't have to worry about strikes or EU compensation either

How many passengers would care if the lounge is a BA lounge vs. a third-party lounge if the product is equal to or better? It seems a fairly typical FT "end of the world as we know it" reaction until that is known.

As to the broader domestic lounge issue, the longer term problem having nothing to do with the immediate thread is that the large corporate accounts which support major air carriers are not willing to pay the fares to support these and it is the employer, not the employee who is the customer.

Could this not just be BA negotiating on rates, particularly in ABZ were asking too much? It certainly sounds a lot like Chinese whispers to me, certainly not going to worry until something mroe reliable than rumors is revealed.

Who cares who owns or operates it? As long as there's a Lounge, that should surely suffice?

Because EDI is one of their most frequently served airports? [23 BA flights left EDI today]

Nine off topic posts have been removed from view. This was done so that we can bring the discussion back onto the topic of the future lounge provision at ABZ.

Bed news indeed if this does come about - but perhaps not surprising in teh current climate.
Is the suggested review of BA lounges at out-stations within the UK combined with the introduction of the CE product on UK domestic flights, the pre-cursors for limiting lounge access on domestics to those travelling in the CE cabin, irrespective of status? Doc Copper
