Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

I spoke to the BA silver exec team and they said if I get 90 tier points before the 22nd Sep, they will upgrade me to gold.

Please can someone recommend flight from London that will get me the points. I was hoping to fly out on a Friday and return on the Saturday.

Many Thanks

It's 6 city pairs, rather than legs. So on ITA matrix you can plug in (say) DUB-JFK as a pairing, and it will give you many options, including multiple legs. You can also force in LON as a connection point to give you only options via London.

By the way, it seems like Matrix is returning BA-AA connections at JFK as a 90 minute MCT, while it is in fact 2 hours and the itinerary may not book. Personally I find 90 minutes ample with GE and no checked bags, but this won't apply to everyone.

There is a way as it's been pointed out, but it will return a whole lot of crud on top of what you're looking for, which is actually I fares which can book into A. With Expertflyer or some such tool it is possible to search JFK-LAX (or SFO) around interesting dates and look for flights with I0.

I have decided to do a post of the year award on the thread, which I will objectively judge. Frankly I can't see anyone beating this one :-:

Thanks to you guys on this thread, I booked a QR trip to Malaysia at a very good price, but more importantly no advance purchase necessary so I'm here in KL after booking the flights on Saturday. So I plan to go off exploring corners of SE Asia I haven't visited before as MH's regional flight prices look very reasonable, and then down to Singapore to visit friends and catch the F1 GP.

Thanks for they tip off guys.

Best TP run destinations from KUL are KTM, BOM, DEL, TPE. All over 2k flown miles so earning 280 TPs. Domestic flights such as LGK, PEN, JHB also good value for 80 TPs.

Apparently there is a very cheap KUL-PER fare at the moment - 280 TP for something like £400. Not sure if it's available at short notice though.

I knew about PEN being a cheap TP run, which I may do. I'm looking at at places I can hop to, get good cash/points return, but also are interesting to visit. I have never visited Cambodia or North Vietnam, and discussing it with a mate who just spent about 4 months blowing his redundancy money traveling around, they are two places he recommended and are of interest to me.

I might keep that in mind if I am next this way. As it is off the cards this trip, since I'm a dual citizen, and that passport has expired, and from what I have read, if I was to apply for a visa on my UK Passport it would get flagged and get rejected (Everyone visiting Australia needs a visa, but Visa's can't be issued to Australian Citizens). Instead, they can at their discretion issue a Australian Declaratory Visa, which even the Australian Government says "An Australian Declaratory visa is not really a visa." And they will charge you a few hundred bucks for that too, even if they reject it. Not even the British Government stoops that low to screw it's own.

As a dual UK/AU passport holder, I had no idea this was the case. Thanks! (And typical Australian Government...)

Help on exUK to SFO/LAX

Hi all,

I am looking to book a business flight ex-UK (ideally Lon) to SFO or "nearby" (in California):
- pax 2
- week of 16th Dec-24thDec17 (can depart 2,3 days later)
- stopovers can be used for TP maximisation (ideally NYC/Vegas)
- ideally can use my companion voucher

Best I have found so far are rates around GBP 1500 with one stop (PHL), but out of Dublin.

Anyone has better results or advice on how to max-out TP on the trip?

Many thanks in advance!

640 tier points:

790 tier points a with better product on trans con (flat bed):

These are examples, you could add an overnight (up to 24h) layover in London and Los Angeles for convenience on both outbound and inbound.

Looks like only the outbound is in A, the return LAX-JFK books into I. Thus the TP count is 70TP less than what was calculated.

40+140+210+40+40+140+140+40 = 790 as calculated
