** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

That's 920 TPs, hence £2.51/TP. Not the best rate out there, but I am quite excited about LHR CCR (not the first time), first time in First transcon, Flagship lounge in JFK, maybe Qantas lounge at LAX, first time in the JFK CCR.

I am afraid it may just be exhausting though.

Anything I am missing?

Are stopovers permitted? Looks good!

The current exAMS/BUD/PRG J fare to the US is for midweek departures. Not sure what the minimum stay requirement is.

I have a LAX- PTY TP run scheduled for December. I had a bunch of Citi Thank You Points that I needed to use. I planned a 15 segment run, which included a 19-hour stopover in RDU where I have family. I have had it booked since May.

I just checked my reservation and 6 of 15 flights have been changed. My TP went from 800 to 700, and I am no longer have an overnight in RDU. It is a mess. I would rather just cancel and book something else.

Does anyone have any experience with AA in this type of situation? I am currently AA Platinum and my itinerary shows a cost summary of $999.06.

Thanks!

You will be able to cancel or rebook to something that suits you better.

Call AA and they are really flexible. If you wish a refund, just to start again, then this will be provided.

However, I would suggest that you do your homework first and plan the route you wish, then call AA and spell out the exact routing you want. The agent will be able to process this for you (even if your new routing is more expensive than the original - just make sure the same selling classes are available for all the flights you choose for your new itinerary, most likely I class).

I've just booked this:

This gets me some great value first flights and also gets me 5 short of Gold for the year (including the positioning flight to EDI).
Unfortunately I don't have much more time to fly to get those 5 TP's I need before I go away at Christmas and I really want gold for those flights so I can enjoy the first lounge and my Fiance can enjoy a spa treatment etc.

Any creative ways to eek out 5 more TP's for the same price??

Alternatively, any way I can route to INV for postitioning via another airport to get 45TP's?

Final option, I'm flying to Menorca in a couple of weeks time, booked in economy. No way that flight is worth £130 to upgrade in my mind. One way is booked in O class and the other in M. Is there any way I could sweet talk a CS representative to bump the O fare to M for a small cost??

Thanks for any help

How many TPs did you calculate the above trip to be worth?

Have you looked at adding something from CLT as you have time there? I have but matrix is not on its best behaviour today for me.

My mistake. My itinerary leaves Charlotte on 26th, not 27th so doesn't leave much time

Does anyone have any tips for tier point runs ex-SYD?

I will be 90 TPs short of silver before 8 Jan. I have an upcoming bank holiday on w/e of 2 Oct, so am planning a trip. Any suggestions to maximise TP value?

I also am planning a trip around Christmas / New Year, probably SYD-MEL, then ADL-SYD and SYD-WEL (I will probably be past 8 Jan when I do WEL-SYD).

I have not booked anything yet and fairly flexible.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm new to flyertalk.

I need to earn 295 TPs by 8 November to earn Gold. I'm ex-LON. I'm fairly flexible on timing. Any suggestions on most time and financially efficient method of earning them. Tried a few Helsinki options but they all seem to come out pretty expensive. Nowhere near sub £3 per TP.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
David

Playing around with a few dates on google flights, I stumbled across the following:

https://www.google.es/flights/?f=0&g...=ONEWORLD;eo=e

Looks like 720 TP for just under 1500 GBP. Not the greatest comfort, by any means, but just in case it turns out to be useful...

Looking at LHR-JFK-LAX-LAS in the F sale for around the 25th November (3 nights) for £2080 return for 920 TPs.

On ITA I could see this price up for BA and AA yesterday. Today (same flights) I can only get the low price on AA. BA has gone up to around £3400.

So before I pull the trigger on AA.com... any ideas to get this priced up on BA? I assume the fare code/rules have changed today?
