Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

OK thanks aks120. Will try that. I have the Powertools links but the UK option was giving an error message. I didn't think to try the European site link. Failing that I'll use palmanfr's suggestion. Thanks both for the help.

I'm trying to book ARN-HEL-LHR-JFK-LAX-LAS return for spring next year. On ITA Matrix I got it to book into A on both trans con legs. Phoned the BA Gold Line to book only to be told after a long hold then a call back (promptly) that they couldn't do this. How did you book this? (and AKS120?) I tried Book with Matrix and got it priced up with AA - slightly higher but not unacceptably so however, I can't find a way to see the fare codes so I'm a little anxious I'm getting A class in the JFK-LAS-JFK legs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The other thing that has worked for me on the AA site is to choose "UK Paypal" at the payment screen.

AA seem to be perfectly happy with this and there is no need to enter any address details, accurate or otherwise

You do get charged in USD though so make sure your default Paypal funding source is a card with competitive forex charges and do this before making the AA booking !!

Only problem is having found the routing on matrix, copied it into Book with Matrix, worked though the AA.com booking pages (where the fare quote is in Dollars), the payment page kicks me out when I say I have a UK credit card. What's the trick to pay for this?
Say the card is US (from memory amex does not check billing country, so as long as other info is correct, and you pass the one-time passcode if needed, you'll be fine)

If you do a dummy booking on aa.com, you can get as far as pre-booking seats. If the JFK - LAX trans con seat plan shows 1+1, it should be F, if 2+2 it should be J. The dummy booking I did showed 2+2 unfortunately.

It hadn't occurred to me to use Paypal so thanks for reminding me of that option. Unfortunately PayPal declined the transaction as they need to verify me or something like that given the transaction size exceeded my limit. Not unreasonable I suppose as I barely use PayPal and then only for small transactions.

Thanks to both you and nufnuf77 - managed to get them to take my credit card and lo and behold I'm booked into A on the JFK-LAX-JFK segments.

Due to the combined expertise of the BA Flyertalk community I've managed to get to where I want to go and get 1,020 TPS for less than £1,500.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to contribute and to share their knowledge in this Forum. My travel has been transformed since I found this site.

Thanks - never thought of doing that. I'll remember that suggestion for the next time.

According to ITA Matrix with my dates the only way to get A class was by using the BA codeshares. AA say I can't book seats on these flights despite being operated by AA so I guess I'll need to contact BA and perhaps AY to sort this out. A very minor issue though!

I booked mine through the GGL line yesterday and asked them to put it on hold for me. I paid this afternoon, and there was a problem during the payment process. It went through eventually, but wonder whether something had changed with the fare basis.

Anyway, hope you get it sorted.

I've tried to set ITA up exactly like this, and yet I can't replicate your routing for some reason.

Perhaps it's because I'm trying to leave on a Saturday opposed to a Thursday, but it just keeps faulting!

Good evening all.

First time poster, long term lurker.
I've been reading the forum for the last couple of years and have found it invaluable in helping me understand how to maximise my infrequent work travel to the benefit of my personal travel.
Last year I manged to secure Silver status for the first time and I'd really like to hold onto it if possible.

My problem is that work travel is thin on the ground this year and I currently still have 365 points to get me over the line. I have a US trip planned for November where I need to be in Lexington for a working week (dates TBC). I'd really like to try and get all of the points I need on this trip, whilst staying within my company budget for this trip.
We travel premiun economy most of the time (or business if the price is in the same ball-park). Currently the suggested option (via work TA) is with Virgin, LHR-ATL-LEX, in PE for £1400. Obviously this is no good to me in my hunt for TPs so I'd like to try and secure the 365 I need for around £1500 (I can cover positioning flights myself if needed and also fly into CVG if this makes it easier).

So the long and short of it is, do you think that this is possible?
What would be the best strategy in terms of searching (I have rudimentary ITA skills)? I wondered if the best option would be a simple ex-EU premium economy fare to somewhere on the east coast for around £1k and then a separate TP run once I'm in the US? Trying to fit this into a single booking is beyond my skill set so any advice would be most welcome.

Apologies for the length of my first post and many thanks in advance to anyody who takes the time to read and consider a response.

What dates are you looking at - I can try my previous search and move it to see if it works - for the minimum time it seemed to be a Thursday was the best - any longer - up to 7 nights was a bit more open

Not many dates left if you want this by the looks of it.

I was looking for November or December of this year, but failing that, June could work - more so to ensure I keep my CCR status!

Would you be able to see if anything shows for November/December?

No, the problem on these ex-CAI fares with payment is such they have to make a manual payment, nothing wrong with the fare itself. The way this requirement for manual payment presents itself is that: first their system freezes, they reboot, and then they explain they will need the full 15/16 digits of your credit card as for manual payments they can't use the stored card details in your account
