This thread is for opinions on the concept of Buy on Board, concerned with the rights or wrongs of the decision to introduce it.

An information thread exists for your questions, particularly if they are on factual matters, here:
Buy on board: Information guide for BA shorthaul economy services

There is a separate thread for experiences, anecdotes, reactions and related comments, which is to be found here:
Buy on board: Experiences and reactions from BA's shorthaul economy services

Useful sub-links
chongcao posted a comparison of other oneworld airlines' BOB prices

Not happy about these changes?
If you have an existing booking, you may be able to complain and get 1000 Avios or cancel for free until 28 days before departure. BA's complaint form.

However, in November 2016, phone calls to BA indicated that "no refunds would be given as food & drinks were complimentary and not part of the T&C."

Ah, how kind of them; they're just charging for water, regardless of whether it contains a teabag.

So in other words the teabag is complimentary, and included in the cost of my ticket?

Fill yer boots everyone!

I look forward to the day when they have plugs on board and people bring on their own nespresso machines and mini fridges

Exactly, and I am surprised its not happened already for in flight charging points

Some sort of prepay token that could be transferable from BA aircraft to BA aircraft, bought/topped up on board with the potential to also be topped up online.

Alternatively one vendor who pays a "licensing" fee to various airlines and then provides a services across multiple fleets

And if it does come about, I claim the IP !!

Presumably they will be like the big paper cups you get on Aer Lingus. Otherwise it would be a total rip off.

For £2.30 I better get a larger cup with unlimited refills.

Sure, but I wouldn't be overly optimistic about that though!

The whole thing is a total rip off!

The fares have not come down to match the LoCos and while an apologist will still say there are reasons to fly BA I can't see any.

Has anyone actually ever believed that the fares will come down, especially at LHR?
