With mid Nov cash prices just over £300 and earning Avios as well as Tier Points, I hope you didn’t spend too much on Avios plus fees!

That's such a long thread to go through - It will take time.
I reserved 40C both directions - it looks like there is extra leg room and yes I am aware it's near the galley.
I paid £265 in taxes - it works out cheaper and I want cheaper this time. I have to fly at specific times and the cheaper flights on the g flights link are not at times I can fly; I priced them out at £495 as the cheapest cash fare.

Unfortunately there aren't many good seats on the BA 747 in economy.

I've been in 52J a fair number of times over the years and for westbound I'd take 52J as there is less Sun glaring in. They're pairs but as a Gold you might get a blocked seat next to you however the LAX flights are generally fairly full down the back.
I've just come back from NY on the 747 and was in that row there and back and much prefer it to the front rows. You can stretch out a little to the side as there is a small gap to the side in row 52 but 51 isn't a bad row either.
There's always a slim chance of an infant in 39 or 40 as they have a bassinet there and from my experiences there's a lot of foot traffic there too. I wouldn't worry so much about being last off as if you walk very briskly once off the aircraft you'll more than likely skip past quite a few folks. Just my own 2c worth there!

We always go for one of the pair seats when on any 747 (on LH last week) As above there is extra space which we always appreciate. They are close to the loo's but its never caused us a problem, also the rear door are area is handy if you want to flex those twitchy legs.

The pairs in 51, 52 and 53 are not so good if you are sensitive to movement. That end of the aircraft moves around most, so for example all turbulence is magnified there.

So the general consensus is reserve a seat in the pair at the back?
Hope it is blocked off and deal with the people going to the toilet the entire flight because that’s better than sitting at the front and having more
legroom but getting the galley traffic?
Neither sounds particularly appealing...

Unfortunately theres nothing glamorous at all about economy and theres no real exit seats like say the A380. You shouldn't be too affected by folks going up the loo which is about 3 metres behind you.

Both sides are identical and row 51 has more space to the side but row 52 has more stretch room in my view. As they're pairs and a seat 'missing' there's no A or K seat.
Theres plenty of pictures online doing a raw google search which might help
Also, here is a good TR

No air vents?!
.... Seriously. Cramped seats and no cool air? That concerns me.
I get hot really easily. I need air vents.
I guess I’ll have to buy a couple of fans off amazon.
