BA and CX have jointly blocked close in booking between HKG and Taiwan and parts of China with a minimum of 5 days before departure.
It is not sure that when this limit will be lifted and people are advised to phone up to book their flights if it is short to departure (even though it may not work)
UPDATES:
- 12/07/2016 The block has been lifted for flights to and from Taiwan.
- 28/10/2016 Looks like there is a 7 days block for flights between HKG and PEK, PVG, XIY (Xi'an), CKG (Chongqing). There may also be a 5 days block on TPE again...
- 28/10/2016 Flights to CTU and WUH still face the 7 days block afaik
- 30/11/2016 Even for TPE there is a 7 days block
- 13/12/2016 Basically everything is blocked, including TYO, LHR and so on.
- 28/02/2017 RIP redemptions to MAINLAND CHINA T-5
- 11/03/2017 Blocked all CX/KA online & phone redemptions to/from All Mainland China, TPE, Malaysia & Singapore flights 9 days from departure !
- 14/03/2017 Ok, folks. CX is blocking ON MOST award spaces for BAEC members (whether online or phone) up to 9 days prior to departure now.
- 15/03/2017 CX (or rather BA) is blocking CX/KA redemptions blocking ON MOST award spaces between HKG and USA, EU, Japan, Taiwan flights for BAEC members (whether online or phone) up to 22 days prior to departure! Each destination is inconsistent with availability. Some are not available less than 7 days, some as in the case of Japan is 22 days prior to departure.
- 11/08/2017 All CX/KA redemptions are blocked online when close to departure. While most can be booked by phone, Chinese routes may still be blocked when close to departure.
.
Unfortunately as a result of significant levels of fraudulent activity CX have removed access to redemption availability -5 days to departure until further notice. (BA Executive Club)

Can the XXX-HKG segments be viewed by BA agents and booked over the phone? Or are they blocked there as well?

They're not seeing any SIN-HKG 5/1 at all
And even when they search SIN-TPE 5/1, they're not seeing all the SIN-HKG-TPE connection I can see online.
Furthermore the agent said she is unable to book the SIN-HKG alone from an available SIN-HKG-TPE connection.

So deliberate married segments blocking from CX, which has been implemented without announcement of the AM changes/devaluations...

EDIT: just to add there do seem to have possibly been changes on CX reward availability available on BAEC recently and there are some comments about that on this thread Where has all the CX Avios availability gone?

It hasn't been implemented with the recent CX FFP changes. The married segment issue on CX has been going for at least the last 2-3 years, there are references and examples of it on this board over that time.l
I've never really had a married segment problem with Avios on CX. I have had with AM on CX https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...l#post29365614 and AM on QR https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...difficult.html
And certainly I've never seen married availability so pronounced as Avios and QF on CX is today. I agree both technical or policy is possible with by suspicions overwhelmingly the former.

I use my Avios mainly on CX, owing to my basing in HK. Followed by Qantas and JAL.

I am convinced there is something very wrong with CX/KA reward availability being shown on ba.com atm.
There is massively less availability showing for all dates (both within the next 1-2 months and 9-11 months ahead) for all non-stop routes served by CX/KA. What is interesting is if you search for the same dates and have a different starting point so you look for AAA-HKG-BBB all of a sudden there is reward availability on the HKG-BBB flight you actually want. CX/KA has had married reward availability before so there is nothing new there. But it seems the balance has now completely shifted so there is very little for non-connecting rewards, and plenty for connecting rewards. Either this is a deliberate policy by CX/KA (has anyone who books via other oneworld FFPs or via AsiaMiles noted the same?), or there is something wrong in how CX/KA are reporting reward availability to ba.com and/or how ba.com is displaying it.

I use Avios to book shorthaul CX flight out of HKG on a monthly basis and I've never really had a problem with married segments. This has definitely changed following the recent CX devaluation on 22nd June.

I frequently book the HKG-TPE segment. In the last few years, T-7 or so has been blocked online, but I could always call BAEC and book a T-7 award over the phone. But today I called and the agent said there's no availability (though I know there usually is).
Does anyone know if T-7 award tickets for HKG-TPE are no longer bookable both online and over the phone? Thanks all the help.

have a look at the cx thread.
if its available on qf, BA shld be able to see and book it. but if its not showing on QF, means CX are being stingy here

I see MNL-HKG two week hole/lack in awards into early October, but unwanted (to me) award availability before and after that hole in availability.
CX award flights rejigged under july changes , some miles cost increases. Plus changes to availability, stated that CX want to hold more rewards for their own CX program, so now maybe you reward flight won't see on BA but will on CX but can only redeem with CX program miles. I guess not new idea by airlines SQ do that with their J+F and to lessesr extent Y availability for ages.
From my perspective it looks to me like the CX longhaul have also dissapeared or reduced drastically if not CX miles, no longer see eg HKG-LHR/MAN OR HKG-AMS.routes
I still enough see CX shorthaul, MNL-HKG (though gaps in availability) and HKG-BKK under BA searches.
(I don't take medium haulflights on CX)
In fact the only BA SITE Longhaul Asia <--> Europe I see in recent (post July) searches is Qatar airlines and Jordanian

thanks for the responses, guys. however, my situation is T-7 (within 7 days of departure), BA isn't able to show award space online for CX. I used to be able to call BA and book it over the phone, but just today the agent could not see any T-7 HKG-TPE availability, even though I confirmed on Qantas that lots of availability exists. not sure if anyone's run into this situation lately? was just wondering if BA is no longer able to book this over the phone...

Also, pardon my ignorance, but what are married segments?
