Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Always worth checking LUX and BRU too.

But certainly JER is NOT in the EU, and yet our previous (and imminent) 2-4-1 bookings seem to work fine from here.

A better sort of ex-EU

I booked a run later in the year over Thanksgiving weekend DUB > LHR > BOS > LAX > LAS and back.... All ticketed though BA. My Flights alerted me to a schedule change BOS > LAX with a new connection time of 1hr off my transatlantic which is below MCT

Assuming best course of action is to speak to BA and have a change made?

How many tier points would a Finnair flight operated by BA from LHR to JFK earn in WT and WT+? BA calculator doesn't seem to be giving the correct points.

Since it is in a few months, you can allow to wait a few weeks for BA computer to catch it up and reschedule you. If you want to call, best is to research your new flights and pro-actively propose them.

In WT: 20, 35 or 70 depending on the booking class. In WTP: 90.

Given that your flight is someway off, you could call to have it changed only for subsequent changes to be made later. AA are very flexible with their scheduling! Some people are happy to phone and make changes straight away whereas others will just sit and wait for AA to sort their schedules to save regular calls to change.

So it will be treated as a BA flight?

If booked under an AY code, it will be treated as an AY flight

But AY flights still get 20, 35, 70, 90, 140, or 210 on a journey of that length

Thanks for all the advice.

How can you get more than 6 legs priced on the ITL?

What is the latest situation with BA operated WTP booked on aa.com?

I want to fly out on AA Business and back on BA WTP.

Booked on ba.com, any WTP on PHL-LHR (BA68) is 90TP.

AA6131 is the codeshare when booking on aa.com. It is in the 'Premium Economy' column, separate from regular Economy ('Choice') column and is only available on BA operated metal. The fare is listed as W but I recall AA treating this as Economy. How many points would I get?

Still booking on aa.com, sometimes the BA option appears directly e.g. BA68, not as AA codeshare. This seems to depend on whether I'm connecting on not. If I book as BA98 on WTP the fare is T. How many would this generate?

Thanks

There will be some point in the booking porcess where you can enter the detaisl of the frequent flyer programme you want the flights to credit to.

Now, is there a more reliable way to narrow down dates other than trial and error? My CPH-LHR-JFK flight was restricted to August, for this big voyage I would prefer to go earlier if possible, are there any dates I should avoid or conversely any periods when the low prices are available?
I'm nearly there, one last novice question: using Google Flights usually provides the option to link through to aa.com and place the booking there - if booking on AA for flights that are a mixture of AA & BA metal, will I still qualify for all the TPs that I would get if I booked via BA? Seeing as I'm probably going to venture out to HNL, I gather this will get me 210 TPs each way due to it being a 2-class flight >2,000 miles?

It looks like the latest sale has been a success for BA - availability into NYC is certainly getting very tight now over Easter. A month ago ex-DUB was wide open for every flight for £795 (including BA113 & BA1516 codeshare on the AA 772), a little more for the CWLCY service, yet by the time I decided to book a couple of days ago the earliest arrival I could get for a sensible price was 5pm - everything earlier was north of £1500, not helped by a slightly worsening exchange rate.

I rang the Gold line to book to avoid fx credit card fees, and as soon as I gave the agent the first flight number his response was 'oh, it's one of those, is it?'. I asked, and it seemed they'd certainly processed a lot recently.

In the end I used what I always hoped would be my backup plan of BA1, given that doesn't show in the first set of flights on ba.com and was therefore less likely to fill. That means an even later arrival into JFK, but MrsNWI has become rather partial to the Babybus concept and wanted to try it again given the now small difference in arrival time.

The return on Easter Sunday still looks fine at all times at the low price point - we've taken the late BA182 and the upper deck still has plenty of space - so that possibly suggests this sale is attracting more people than usual who want a longer break as opposed to TP runners.
