Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Possibly a stopover in excess of 24h? Or back-tracking your route? Otherwise, no real idea why that should be.

I will wave on the way home ... we leave ANC for DUB on 22 July, via PHX and CLT

Sorry Ross I didn't say I was looking at Business class flights originally. I have ammended the post now - business class on the route you have found is £4k, £1,690 is for economy.

Interesting question, though. Our DUB-CLT-PHX//PHX-ANC and return same route [with no week in PHX] was £1,603 each [all Business and Domestic First, on AA] when we booked in late December. And 880 TPs.

highlandguy, have you looked at AA ex-DUB rather than the BA "back to LHR" option? Do you need to go via JFK?

The 20-hour run back from ANC to DUB will be a bit tiring, but whatever. The DUB-JER on Stobart will be the cherry on the top of that, just another 4-6 hours after waiting for the connection

I've deliberately picked the later flight on the RJ-190 to allow for a cheaper positioning flight on Norwegian for £80.

http://goo.gl/flights/xBNO

Total cost £564 for 360tp and no need for a hotel.[/QUO

just checking this out and there is only less than 1 hour to catch the connection at malaga....is this airport that small and you will make this nor problem?

This thread gives details on new AA routes to ANC that may be of interest especially if they have not yet been loaded and they come through soon.

Yes have been looking at ex-DUB for the flights & it's ex-DUB that is climbing over £4k when I add an eastern seaboard leg

The thread does not really tell you anything other than the flights are daily.
Just checked AA.com and the flights to ANC have been loaded.
The flight times are not great - the flight to ANC leaves 7.40 and arrives after midnight in ANC. The return is an overnight which arrives in LAX at 5.58.

Could be sale window issues, then. I assume you have run Matrix with the "Find cheapest fares" with different start dates? Of course you have! A simpe DUB-ANC should throw up the desired options, of course.

I can offer no more assistance on this one ... our July DUB-PHX/ANC is a one-off, and certainly wouldn't have happened at the prices you're seeing. Good luck!

Just booked myself a nice little side trip to Mexico while we're in NYC early April.

30JAN|£1.02/TP | £509 | 500 | JFK-PHX-SJD-PHX-JFK | P/I/I/P | aa.com | OverTheHorizon | Decent flight & connection times, though overnight return from PHX is in a 737 recliner !!

Details here.

Quite a lot of decently-priced availability around those dates too. Looking forward to my weekend drinking mojitos

Stopovers are sometimes allowed for a bit extra. The problem is that there are usually limited transfers / flights permitted - given OMA's location if you jam it in you hit that fairly quickly I think, or you're reduced to 60 TP legs (e.g. CLT-OMA-LAX-HNL gets 330 TPs, most here would go to HNL something like JFK-PHX-LAX-HNL for 480 TPs)

Try an open-jaw, e.g. fly Xxx-HNL outbound and OMA-XXX return. Then book HNL-OMA (or vice versa) separately. I see OMA-LAX-PHX-HNL for £783 (330 TPs)

One of the first posts in the thread is a beginners guide to ITA matrix, it's a useful tool once you get the hang of it (steer clear of complex stuff like fare codes at the start)

Just pulled the trigger on my TP "holiday" for next Christmas. Manged to get MAD-LHR-CLT-MCO-MIA-SKB/SKB-MIA/MIA-PHL-CDG for 4149 Euro total for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Managed to persuade the wife that itd get us all BA silver for an extra 2 years (TP collection dates end Nov or Dec for us all) and as shes got used to the lounges now, she agreed. Should be 580 TP, but extra 20 will be on positioning.
4 days in SKB plus with the generous free stopover, booked a cruise from Miami for 7 days too in the middle, so should be quite a journey... Looking forward to it already!

Huge shout out to a lovely Gold Line representative I spoke to earlier today to book my ex-DUB TP run/holiday to Hawaii. My first call to the Gold Line was slightly less successful, with the representative insisting that flights have to be booked under BA codes and not AA codes. "if you want AA, call AA to book; we are BA, we book under BA codes" is not what you'd expect to hear from GL rep (which other than sounding incredibly rude is also bollocks) but I've found that HUCA does wonders. The lady that answered my second call was very patient with entering sgments and somewhat impressed with what one can get out of matrix. Jacqueline, if you're reading this, you're a star!

Have to agree. Many people on here have booked AA codes via BA and not just the GL. I did it very easily even as a blue.

If you are impressed with the service then you can always give a golden ticket. I will say, I haave called the gold line numerous times recently for a large group booking (always get through to Newcastle which is an added bonus as we share the same language - geordie ) and have always found them very polite and helpful.
