Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

I really appreciate the new guide posted recently, however I'm a bit of a novice at TP runs, and I'm hoping a wiser head can give me some advice.

Last summer, I got on the ex-CPH bandwagon and did a cheeky round trip to NYC in order to secure my Silver card. That was easy. However, due to a change of job I have no travel anticipated for this year but I don't want to lose my Silver card. Having read these posts, it looks like LHR-JFK-PHX-HNL starting from somewhere in Europe would get me close to Gold, for a pretty good price. However, when I've tried to punch this route into aa.com it firstly doesn't give me enough fields to enter that many legs, and then just says that the route is not available. I also tried using Google Flights but had the same problem.

Ideally I want a single trip that will enable me to get to Silver, possibly to Gold, passing through NYC with the option to stay a couple of days there. If someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong that would really help - once I know how to research these, I'll gladly put in the time to search for a good option and post anything good that I find.

Don't try and put in ever segment, leave out connecting points.
Do LHR-JFK, JFK-HNL and look for segments that connect as you want them to on AA.com or your local site.

Thanks guys, that's a great start!

Now, is there a more reliable way to narrow down dates other than trial and error? My CPH-LHR-JFK flight was restricted to August, for this big voyage I would prefer to go earlier if possible, are there any dates I should avoid or conversely any periods when the low prices are available?

The dates and other restrictions for the exDUB sale are in the first two linked posts in the wiki.

Good afternoon from "dreich" Carnoustie , I am looking to do a tier point run in November through Dublin to Hawaii. I have a BA voucher from Amex for 2-1 and though maybe the current Mr E would join me. My question is can I do this with a 2-1 voucher and if so how do you do physically do it ? Thanks in advance Cw

I think you are confusing two very different things here.

A 2-4-1 is for reward bookings made with avios. Reward bookings do not earn avios or TPs. The 2-4-1 is also restricted to BA metal only so the furthest you could get on it would be LAX.

A TP run would be booking a cash ticket. Lots of details on the current exDUB sale in the links posts at the top of the wiki.

A cash booking and a reward booking can't be combined.

2 for 1 voucher needs to be used ex-UK so no. Also the voucher is an Avios redemption so you won't earn any TP or miles.

Help Needs

I am after some advice or help.

I am a BA Gold Card holder and have been for some time but this past year I have been using Emirates more and more as heading East more often and live near Gatwick.

I am keen to retain my gold but need about 900 tier points. My friend has suggested a tier point run so keen to get to Vegas and no issue if start is either DUB or AMS or other hubs in Europe.

I am also happy to do a JFK-PHX-LAS or via MIA or ATL etc

I want to head out either 28th or 28th March and return on 4th or 5th April. Can anyone come up with a route that gets max tier points but comes in at 1200-1300 euros per person? I have am taking the whole family so 4 passengers.

Thanks in advance

Hello, Merlin5, and welcome aboard!! I hope someone more knowledgable than me comes along soon!

ex-DUB or ex-AMS sounds like your scene. Without personally exploring ITA Matrix, i could guess both options are credible. ex-DUB has the potential advantage of dropping you off on the East Coast, leaving a 210TP sector to get to LAS [each way] I think* [dammit, CLT-LAS is only 1910 miles! - I try to avoid NYC, but you may see it differently].

Had you played Matrix yet? I'm guessing your friend is European based, so perhaps ex-AMS options [or indeed the other start-points] may be useful. Remember, more sectors = more TPs'
