Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

In AA Business, that seat is only beaten by the 77W. very comfortable, a d wide when flat thanks to neat hollowed out area under the armrst. Individual window seats highly recommended!
The new refurbed AA 772 J seat is also very good.

See my work in progress TR for pics ;-)

I enjoy it on PHX-PHL, where it is typically offered once per day, with all other flights being A320/A321 on the route. That said, it doesn't have wifi.

Ok, another communication from the department of daft questions....

I'm just putting together a small run in March DUB-LHR-BOS-LHR-BOS in J which will be circa £800. I'd like to UuA for First on this. Using the availability search I can see that there is availability on this route and flights for F seats.

I can get the flights listed on Google flights and that can take me to BA for booking, but in this process I don't get an option to UuA.

So, to get to the question, how do I actually do this? Do I call Gold after booking, in which case can I be sure it will be available? And.. what is the Avios (and other) cost likely to be?

Sign in to your BAEC account. Go to "Find reward flights". Use teh "book & upgrade option". Search for DUB to BOS for your dates and select to UuA outbound/inbound/both. It should work.

Failing that either book the fare and UuA on mmb or call. Or just call and do the booking & UuA all in one.

Hello,

I have a little bit a strange question. I have a voucher of 800 GBP to spent before 31/1.
Based in Brussels, but any EU-airport can do.

I am very flexible in February, March, April, August, September, October, November, December.

WHat would be the best TP-run for that money on BA? Of coourse I am willing to add some money to it to enlarge my TP.

Thanks

Thanks - to do the former I need to have made the booking already? Its complicated by that fact that I need to use a TA to make the booking and this sometimes prevents me from making subsequent changes to the booking.

If you do the "book & upgrade" option via your baec account you do it all together - so you get a price in cash & avios to book and do the UuA and once you pay it is all done.

If you need to use a TA though you will need to book the cash J fare with them, then call BA to UuA to F afterwards.

For a UuA to a TA made booking make sure it is on BA ticket stock (125-...), there are no other carriers included in the booking (I think you are BA metal only), and the TA has to issue the ticket in the country of your BAEC membership as well.

Hi all,

After a CE flight in February I'll be 230 TPs away from Silver with my year-end on 8 April. I've got holiday planned for March and if possible, would love to hit silver. It's such an open question, but does anyone have any tips for a 'cheap' way to get 230 TPs to a nice location for a week or so towards the end of March?

If I do hit silver, will this give me a full year until the following year-end? I've seen some people that get two years of Silver/Gold somehow...

Thanks for your help

ps. I should have also said that I'd like to depart and arrive back in London. Dates I'm looking at are 24/25/26 March, back on 2/3 April.

Previously I posted about an issue getting a routing via HEL on the DUB sale fares.

For DUB-JFK how convoluted can we make the itinerary? I have a friend who would find BA Silver very useful. Does the MPM allow DUB-HEL-LHR-JFK or even DUB-HEL-LHR-MIA-JFK or something like that? I imagine that a routing to JFK via BOS or vv would be fine as its no extension at all, and would equal 600 TPs. OTOH, 77W via MIA is very premium!

Hiya

I have just had a HNL TP route price up to my satisfaction on ITA Matrix and I wonder if anyone had recently had any joy with using the ticketing agents in the Galleries South Lounge to book the ticket using the print out from ITA?

I am going to be in T5 this evening and instead of being on the phone with an agent - I thought that may be a better option.

Thoughts?

If you look in the wiki the LHR-HEL-OSL approach may be best. Or maybe JER-LGW-RAK, but by dropping out at LGW on return you'd only get 240 TPs
